Have you ever worked customer service at a retail store or in a call center? It sucks hardcore. I work in a call center at the moment and the people that call in are so rude and ignorant that it makes me grind my teeth. I mean, how can you be so stupid as to call in and ask for a telephone number BEFORE getting a peice of paper and something to write with.

I have friends also who are working in call centers and most of them have resigned because they just can't take how some customers treat them. The turn-voer in call centers is so fast that they are giving out sign up bonus for their new hirees.

A bonus here and there would totally make this job easier.

While I would never treat someone like dirt, I can understand the frustration. Calling a place, only to get a recorded prompt, taking 15 minutes just to get a live voice, only to find you reached the wrong extension, and be put on hold again. I myself can not deal with stupid people, so I could never work as an operator, I would be screaming at the people all day. :)

It is hard to deal with most of the people that call in. They constantly ask you to repeat the same information, becuase they are unable to stop interupting long enough to hear everything you have to say. It's rough.

My partner works in a call centre dealing with people who feel it is their right to abuse him. It is soul destroying to see him sometimes, he finds it very hard to keep his cool and be pleasant to people who call him all the names under the sun, expect him to wave a magic wand and make things right instantly and who are antagonistic and belligerant. Ok, we none of us like having to go through to call centres but how many people actually remember that there are real people working there and they don't deserve the abuse.

sometimes, your dealing with medicated people as well as drunks and the 'free range rude' as dr. lector would say. all i can advise is try to keep your cool and keep your eye on the dollar your making.

The whole "free range rude" thing is interesting. My parents would have grounded me for weeks for saying half of the things these people say to me on a daily basis.

People are rude. Someplace along the time manners stopped being taught by parents and people think if they scream loud enough they will get what they want. Oh for a time when people knew how to treat their co-inhabitants of this planet.
