I think it more than smacks of Vietnam. It is Vietnam all over again. It really saddens me because I come from the generation that marched against the Vietnamese War. We liked to think that we had somehow made some changes and gotten government to listen. Maybe we did for a time but it sure didn't take long for the USA to repeat the mistakes all over. If anything it's worse this time because we are unfortunate enough to have a Texas Oil president with friends who have a vested interest in defeating Irag. God, I hope it ends soon.

This does sound like a fair asertion. As this was the first attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor but I do not think that Vietnam was a man hunt like this one is since this war is more personal than Vietnam was. Vietnam was more of a calculated attack on Americans rather than an hit and run like Osama did.
Yes history does repete itself and I also think that this is reminisent of Vietnam.

I don't know, it just seems like they are in a battle that just can't win...
From what I understand, Vietnam was an attempt to save the world from Commies...but it would seem that the US just showed up there, no one really asked them to be there...from what I have read, even the South Vietnamese didn't want them there........

History MAY repeat itself, i consider Bush as an inferior Version of Hitler xD
Anyways the reason it won't happen is because people have history class in school. That's one of the reasons they do give history lessons to kids these days :P

Stop me when this starts sounding familiar.A president sends troops to the other side of world to fight a war without a clear declaration of war from the congress. It drags on without a clear ending. It splits the country in two and the president's approval rating goes down.

I believe history does have the habit of repeating itself, the reason I feel this way is because some people don't learn from their own lessons. It's really down to trying to understand situations in my opinion, something I find very sad when certain nations think that they can control how people communicate with their nation like China.
No country should be able to do this, have they learned? Nope. History for the will be repeated no doubt and that's life it seems.

One of my favorite quotes: "History does not repeat itself, but it rhymes." - Mark Twain.
I don't think history ever repeats itself, since our culture and society have changed based on the events of our past. At the same time, when humans don't learn from their mistakes, they often make similar ones and find themselves in situations that seem familiar. Still, the experiences we learned in Vietnam makes the Iraq war it's own entity. Iraq will never be Vietnam, but it might sound a lot like it.
