No music should never become free, otherwise, who will know the worth of a good singer. It is the money which decides the quality of a good singer. Otherwise, there will be no difference between anyone humming a tune and a good singer. File sharing of music is illegal. However, it is the music industry's poor marketing which has led to massive file sharing boom. Music Cd's are overpriced, in any album having 10 songs, barely 2 or 3 are worth listening, and the rest sound the same. So, people find it crazy to buy just a few good songs for the price of whole CD and hence people start file sharing, whereby only the popular files get traded. Unless, the music industry does something to improve the content of the albums, file sharing will continue at an alarming rate.

It depends. There are singers/companies which give their sounds free so why shouldn't the end-user take advantage of listening music for free? Of course, there are those sold and they have copyright owners and these should not be pirated.

Usually those singer/companies that give their sounds for free either do it for promotional purposes, in which case it would be ok to enjoy freely, or they do it to support a worthy cause (such as Live 8 to end world hunger), in which case it is definately not good and is rather low for some one to take advantage.
