Knowing Each Others Business Good or Bad?

I come from a small Island in Scotland and More or less know everyone andthey know me. I realise this can be a good thing when in times of trouble, but i am a very private person and find it frustrating that my business can be known by the ones around me before I can sometimes come to terms with it myself. Does anyone else out there live in that sort of community and if so how do you cope?

i too am a very private person but also love the intimacy of a small community. Ive lived in an annonimous big city but always come home to the village of my birth. I feel secure in the knowledge that everyone knows me who and what i am, what i stand for and where i am going.
