We have been experiencing a bit of nostalgia with movie watching this past year. Just recently we viewed "Friendly Persuasion" about a Quaker Family in the Civil War Era, and some of the struggles/temptations that they faced which conflicted with their plain and non confrontational life/religious style. The mother of the family was the recorded minister for their church so that gave more incentive to live an upstanding life, especially in the eyes of others. Some very interesting predicaments popped up from time to time, including how to dodge the organ music bellowing from the attic, when the elders pay a visit to discuss *issues* of propriety. Mother was always a gem and very true to her pacifist commitments up until...... those rebel soldiers (that have been ransacking and burning neighborhood farms)found their way on her property. Oh, she offered them every bit of hospitality and with a smile none the less, and this gregarious outpouring probably saved their farm and home....but what happens when the rebel soldier decides on a nice goose dinner and grabs the pet goose, Samantha? not just the Pet Goose, but Momma's pet goose. You'll have to watch the movie for that suspenseful surprise!
The movie stars Clark Gable and also has Marjorie Maime in it (from the Ma and Pa Kettle series)
What Great oldie have you watched that made you think, "They just don't make them like that anymore!" ?
