First job interview nerves

February 23, 2007 2:47am CST
I'm 30 years old and today i'm going to be having my first ever job interview, after countless job applications/letters and emails, someone finally wants to see me in person!!! I'm pretty nervous i don't know what to expect at all, my cv/resume is pretty honest about my ability, so i'm not worried about what they want from me, more just about how i'm gonna cope in the interview itself and how good i'm gonna be at selling myself, i've never been in one before and i was wondering if any of you have any tips for how to stay cool & calm in an interview

firstly, don't be so shaky and fearful. always remember you donot have anything to lose, so keep up your high spirit and get going... here are a few tips: 1. be very strong and confident and have a high self esteem 2. dress corporately, walk in smartly and shake hands and then sit 3. never talk too much and advert yourself (prepare a good resume, where you give details in precise chronological reverse order, donot mention your failure and poor figurative details). respond to very aptly and donot digress. 4. if you donot know, admit it. admitting is commendable than givng vague and wrong information. 5. try to be truthful. there is one truth and you would not have to think for when the same question is cleverly repeated. 6. bear a pleasant face and a charming personality. i think, that's all about it. good luck

first of all, an interview is not a test. so dont think of it like that. consider it more of a get to know you discussion to see how well you would fit in with the company. you sound confident in your abilities. that is great. going into an interview confident makes a Huge difference. be friendly, but remain professional. in other words...unless your specifically asked something about your personal life...dont overshare. lol you should also do a bit of research on the company. that way if your asked a question like "What do you know about our company?" or "why should we hire you" that way you can give an educated answer and will show that you have a strong interest in getting the job. for the "why should we hire you" question, talk about your education/experience/achievments that are relevant to the job. also dont forget eye contact..it helps to re-enforce your interest in the job. and dont bad mouth your past employers. good luck! im sure you will do great, your confident of what your capable of and that is the most important part!

Be confident and honest, and try to show your stong points and avoid showing your weak points. The most important is - be confident and dont be nervous

The main thing is to make yourself beleive that you can do the job. Read through the job description properly and if you feel you could definitely do the job then you will be fine. Also do not try too hard you will only look false

Congratulations on getting the interview! I use to do interviews in my previous job so may be I can give you a few tips on what to do or what not to do LOL First of all, make sure you know a 100 % what is in your cv and that you are able to talk about it without any doubts. You may also want to read about the company, in case they ask you some questions about what you know about them. During the interview, try to be as natural as possible, not too confident but enough so that they will trust what you are saying, most importantly be honnest. If asked about previous companies or jobs, never say anything too negative about them or about your previous manager, don't lie either but just try to wrap it up and turn it into something positive. It is not easy to be comfortable during an interview, but that is also the role of the person who will interview you, to ensure that they give you the possibility to be at ease. Well I hope this helps you, I wish you the best of luck !

You are thirty years old you are going to face your first interview in your life & you need tips, right.First of all be confident& be optimistic, then only you will have confidence to face an interview.Always be calm&don't get TENSED,BE COOL. Inspite of all that think that you have that caliber that you will get this job. Before going to an interview check your CV.This is where most people got out of an interview.Keep your CV as simple as that.Don't BOOST your CV.Always write what you have or else you will suffer,be honest. As i already said be OPTIMISTIC,you will get the job.GOODLUCK!

Some books suggest that taking a rehearsal is one way to alleviate the nervousness. Before the interview, you imagine yourself facing the interviewers and anticipate what they will ask and how you are going to answer them. Any way, good luck to your interview.

just be yourself as if you are just talking with your peers. mostly interviews are bout yourself, experience and backgroud, mostly, what was written on your cv's are the basic questions and the rest would be about the company and your would be contributions if ever they will hire you. just smile, take a deep breath and asnswer the questions..
