Children should not be left alone to play with dogs, doctors say. In a Medical Journal, and NHS Trust medics also called for children to be taught how to approach dogs. a Paediatrician also wrote that dog owners should face mandatory classes on pet control. A five-year-old girl was killed by a pit bull terrier-type dog recently, and hospital admissions for dog bites have doubled in 10 years. NHS figures show that 4,133 people were admitted to hospital last year suffering dog bites, almost double the number in 1996. More than a fifth were children under nine. what do you think? do you leave your dogs with your children?

I completely agree too. We have two dogs, and although they are the sweetest I will never leave my toddler alone with them, in fact when I cannot watch of 3 of them together in the same room, I just put them outside because at least I am 100% sure that nothing will happen in my back. I am always afraid that they misinterpret one of my son's moves or so. I trust them, but I will trust them more when I will be sure that my son has got the same respect from them than my husband and I have.

I agree. We have a large dog at home. She is very submissive and docile but I'm still very cautious and never leave my child alone with her. My friend's 2 year old daughter was mauled by a Labrador recently. She was hospitalized with multiple wounds to her face.

Yes, I totally agree with you. We have a Chow at home and I have a toddler. I make sure that she isn't left alone with our dog. Although dog's are basically docile to their owners, you never know what can irk them, especially when a kid's impulses can still get out of control. Better to be safe than sorry.
