Advice for family visit to WDW

This fall my wife and I are taking our 9 and 12 year-old boys to Walt Disney World for the first time. We have piles of books and have been through the official website (and some fan sites), but I would welcome any advice on "Can't miss experiences". Our basis for the trip, aside from always wanting to go & have fun, is to spend a great time with the boys while they're still "kids", so family experiences are going to be more important than thrill rides. Feel free to offer advice on the surrounding area as well. Thanks in advance.
