Can you teach them to wipe their paws?

Oh my gosh brought the dogs in from outside yesterday. It was warm out and all the snow has been melting and I think they found every muddle puddle outside. They come charging in the house and of course they head right to the dinning room where I have a freshly mopped floor and doggie paw prints were every where. I wish someone would come up with a way to teach dogs how to wipe their paws before entering the house. What a mess!!!!!!

I don't know of any dogs who wipe their paws before coming in. I know that they're smart enough to learn but I think they run into the house filthy on purpose, as they know they are so cute and will get away with it! I've heard of people keeping a little tray of water at the door to rinse their paws off upon coming in ( this was intended to get rid of the salt on their paws during the winter months, but could work in your situation too).

You could buy them a rug. Use the "stay" command to keep them on the rug. Or better yet take a bowl with water and clean off their paws for them. I usually just put a towel down where my dogs run in, and have them walk back and forth on it a few times.

Yep I know that one too. I wish we could teach them... My husband always have a towel on the floor in the hall for them when they get back from outside, and he dries them each time. I wish they would just know how to do that themselves LoL I try to dit too but most of the tiem I have my son together with us and it is not an easy job to prevent one of the dogs from coming in the house while you clean the other one.

Haven't tried teaching Shadow that. We wipe his paws and underbelly when it's messy or the whole house gets filthy.
