Definitely YES!My best friend,from the age of 10 was a male....I'm now 40 and he is still my best friend and also my husbands brother....I met my hubby through him,he is great to talk to,listen to,party with and anything else we want to do......he is a parapalegic and I've taken care of him many times over the years,just like he has me.....I honestly don't think I would ever get this out of a female friend....I have lots of them,but not like my BEST friend in the world!

Yes of course they can. It's true that sometimes attraction can exist and that might lead to something else, but that doesn't have to happen necessarily. The essential thing here is communication. Both must be really aware of what they expect from their relationship, and also about what the other expects as well...so that none of both suffers afterwards.
