How many steps do you take a day?

I've started wearing a Pedometer in order to track how much exercise I'm getting every day. It amazes me how much of a difference I can have between one day and the next! I work at a desk job during the day, so I don't take a whole lot of steps daily... probably about 2,000 during work. But when I get home, my steps increase a lot because I'm doing laundry and other regular household duties. So my steps have been averaging around 6,000. I have heard and read that you should strive to take 10,000 steps a day! So, I have made it my goal to increase my steps every day. I'll start by making sure I have at least 7,000 steps a day for a week. Then the next week, I'll try for 8,000 and so on, till I reach 10,000 steps a day. I know that that will mean increasing my daily exercise. As soon as the weather gets better, I plan to take a walk at lunch each day at work. That should help a lot. I do exercise in the evenings already, but I'll try to increase that by 15-30 minutes to reach my goal. Have you ever tracked your steps? If so, how many do you take a day?

No I haven't used a pedometer but I have definitely thought about getting one. I'm pretty active but I'd like to know exactly where I fall on the scale. I've also heard that at least 10,000 steps per day is advisable. I've read that that goal is always achieved by Amish farmers and helps to account for their good health although there are certainly other factors. I've also wondered what if anything, would be considered too much. Next time I'm near the Wilderness store, I think I'll see about getting a pedometer. thanks for the reminder.

I do not know how many steps a day I take but it would be a lot on most days as I do walking as an exercise but it would also be great to buy a pair of pedometers so I would know exactly, what a great idea.

I remember a few years ago, I decided to be more organized and save step when cleaning. I would take everything that needed taken to one room in one trip thus saving alot of steps. Then I read somewhere that these extra steps are great for stayin fit and loosing weight. Needless to say, i quit the organizational technique and went back to my normal way of cleaning. I really wasnt saving time anyway.

I can never seem to get the pedometers adjusted right, i have gone for a 2 mile walk and it recorded 20 steps. One time I spent the whole day at a county fair and it registered less then a 100. As soon as I find one that works or the right spot to wear it, inevitably I lose it.

I think it's hard to get to 10,000 steps unless you are very conscious of it (or unless you run/walk for exercise). I try to get to 10,000 but it really only happens when I go for walk on the treadmill AND when I stay off of Mylot for most of the day, LOL.
