I heard from the television the other day that the extent of ozone depletion has caused a great amount of UV rays to infiltrate into the atmosphere, causing greater stress on the skin. This makes sunblock a must not only when you go out to the beach but for everyday walks under the sun. Do you guys know of any nice tips on how to shop for sunblocks and which ones are appropriate? I tend to get lost in all the SPf numbers and benefits marketed on the labels.

I think everything that has to be said about sunblocks has been mentioned already by the respondents. Personally I also have a separate sunblock for the face and body (Nivea Sun Face sunblock SPF 50, the white one and Body Recipe Sunflower Body Sunblock SPF 30). However, if money is tight then for the meantime I just settle for the ones that can be used in the face and in the body, just as long as I have something to use. I'm still 22 and I've been using sunblocks since I'm 20 because exposure to sun is the number one culprit in premature skin aging (wrinkles, dark spots, etc) so we really have to use it even if it feels heavy (in the face)to use.

Be sure to pick the ones with the SPF 15 for an everyday use and a higher one if you go to he beach. In terms of brand Nivea,Coopertone,Hawaiian tropics are the more known ones.

I believe the higher the SPF, the longer the sunblock offers protection. SPF 50 will give you better protection longer than SPF 25. There are also special "face" sunblocks that tend to be oilfree and safe for daily wear without clogging pores or drying out your skin. They now recommend that people wear a face sunblock daily (under out makeup) in order to protect skin and prevent skin cancer. Some of the makeup manufactures actually make face sunblock that is supposed to go on smooth and still allow your makeup to go on smooth. Ask at a make up counter, like in a department store, I bet they can recommend the best one for your skin type.
