Ginger Soap- yea or nay?

So I know the popular opinion is that Ginger smells like old lady perfume. But after LAL's glowing gush about it, I had to get ahold of some before it was all gone, so I bought a bar with my most recent order. ...this does not smell like old lady perfume. This is very, very lovely. Which is pretty funny because I did try a sample of ginger a year ago, and didn't like it. So what gives? Maybe it's a conspiracy, now that Ginger is on the way out, they secretly tweaked it's scent so now it's fabulous. Well, ok, probably not. What do you think?

I think I had an idea of what I wanted Ginger to smell like. I was hoping it would be more sweet and spicy, like ginger snaps or crystalized ginger candies. However this is not the scent I get at all. To me it's more flowery/powdery which yeah, to me kinda has that old lady perfume vibe. While I do have LUSH soap scents that I love, like Alkmaar, Bob, and Sexy Peel. I actually have the same complaint about all LUSH soaps. They just dissapear too fast, especially considering the price.

I've had luck curing my soaps. I let them sit out in the open air on a soap dish for a week or two, then they get harder and last a lot longer. Wish it weren't necessary, but it's not terribly difficult either, so it's ok.

I've started doing that too. I know sometimes they aren't quite as fragrant after curing, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice to have them around a little longer. My wallet appreicates it too :-)

I absolutely love Ginger. I don't think it smells "old lady" at all. I actually think it even has some very masculine hints to it (my OH likes it too!). It's a very complex and lovely smell. I have one bar left which I was given as a gift a few months ago and I'm enjoying the last of it. I think there are a lot of problems with it, though, specifically with its marketing & image, as well as the high price, which have led to hits being discontinued. Firstly it is very expensive, because it has a lot of expensive oils etc in it, and I tend to think that over £4 per 100g of soap is quite a lot no matter how nice it smells. Secondly, the name. If you buy it expecting it to smell like ginger, you'll be disappointed, because it smells nothing like, to me. I expect that disappointed a lot of people who thought they would like it. Thirdly, the colour. As I said above, I think it's actually got quite a unisex scent to it, and yet the pink colour is likely to put men off to start with. Furthermore, pink is typically seen as a colour for marketing to the "tweens" and teens, but the smell is actually quite sophisticated, so there seems to be a bit of a mismatch there. I will miss it, though. :( It is one of Lush's most unique scents by far. Let's hope they don't cut Karma too!

I've only tried samples of this, and have yet to be impressed. The samples I had melted super fast and didn't smell extraordinary. They did smell nice, but nothing that I would go back for or cry over after it was completely gone. I don't think I'll buy any, even though its on its way out. By the way, I never got the old lady vibe from it, I just though it smelled 'rich' or something.

I do know that is can sometimes be hard to figure out how things really smell when you are in the LUSH store. there have been a bunch of times when I have brought a product home only to find that it doesn't smell the way I expected it to. Perhaps that is what happened with me for Ginger. I only ever smelled it in the store and also only in it's perfume form. I do know that scents can also smell a little different due to the product they are in. Ingredients can have an effect I suppose. Anyhow, I'm not sad to see Ginger go. Even if I found that I did like the smell, it was still pretty darn expensive for soap. But I suppose that is the case for a lot of LUSH soaps. How funny, I still buy them though.

Personally i don't think it's an old ladies smell, since they always seem to smell of English Lavender or some such thing. Personally i really love the scent, but i think the soap is a tad too pricey, i always preferred the Gingermen bath bombs (which i have a nice stash of!). I shall miss this fragrance when it goes, which i think is going to be soon, if it hasn't already gone?

I was at the Mafia meeting when BIG announced it was going (it was during my factory trip last year). So if it hasn't started going yet, I'd say it's going pretty darn soon.

I sorely miss Gingerman. It was perfect and IMHO one of Lush's best bath products. The perfume, however, always just smells cheap. It reminds me of little samples you'd get free with a Barbie doll or one of those Tinkerbell sets as a kid. It's not a quality product. The soap is somewhere inbetween. I can take it or leave it. I think many people are put off though because they expect a strong, spicy ginger scent and not the soft and gentle aroma you actually get with this soap. Also, ginger is one of those love it or hate it things, a lot like Karma I feel.

nay, I think that the best soap out there is Jasmin scented soap. It's really refreshing and the scent stays for days.

I adore Ginger in all its forms and would have loved to have been able to try out the lotion too. It's the first scent I immediately loved whereas most of the other scents have grown on me.

I'm one of the many who thinks ginger smells very much like old lady perfumes. Something about it just makes my head hurt, I can't stand it. I have tried a sample of the soap, it melted pretty fast and did nothing special for my skin. The ginger line never was very popular at the Whyte Ave store, I don't even remember anyone buying the perfume or dusting powder while I worked there...

Ginger soap i hadn't tried purely because it's so expensive, but i managed to get hold of some in a swap, and i was really impressed with it, i loved the scent, and i found it lasted ages on my skin. I have managed to stock up a bit now it discontinued.

I never tried ginger. I think I sniffed it once at the store. I just knew I wouldn't like it based on the description in the Lush times. If it smelled more like a ginger snap maybe...

Oh I do not find that Ginger smells like old lady perfume, I have a soap that contains ginger extra and find it very helpful to the skin, they still do sell it with the business that I used to sell ginger soap but maybe by now it is on the way out I shall have to checked with my other friends that are still in the business whether we can still obtain this, and I do not think that ginger is on the way out it has been around for years.

Ginger has never been one of the scents I like either. I much prefer Sexy Peel that I bought for the first time just last night. I slice the soaps into little slices and usually end up with about 20 pieces. That way I can take a fresh piece of soap into the bath or shower with me and it lasts longer, and still retains the scent. The slices of soap that I'm not using, I usually put in the fridge, It makes them a little harder and they don't lose their quality or scent either.

I never really cared for it. I like a more citrusy smell. I like the idea of curing the soap to help it last longer though thanks for the tip
