Don't you think that there are many too many subjects taught in school?

Don't you find that there are far too many things taught in school. When I mean things I mean subject. How many subjects did you take from your pre-school to college? And how many of that actually did you use in real life. Of course there will be people saying the subjects taught actually exercises the brain. But then again, most of us end up forgetting most of what we actually learn. Case in point, we were once forced to memorize the entire chemical period table. I do not find any good reason why the hell we were forced to do so rather than having something to quiz upon. So, instead of these type of learning, why don't school institute learning things that are far more practical rather than theoretical?

I find out that the kids now are being made to learn too many subjects in school. This is outageous considering that pupils in the primary and elementary levels must learn only the basics of education. Reading, writing and mathematics along with ethics or good manners and right conduct are all that a child needs to learn in the early stages of education. Once a child is able to read and write with gratifying speed and comprehension, then and only then will he be ready for science, social studies, and other else. Mathematics is out of the question, because it always gets more complicated per grade level. Another horrifying thing going on in schools now, is the way teachers demand that pupils carry a very heavy load of books and notebooks. My son used to have backaches and headaches arising from carrying too many books to school each day. I am hoping that the Educational system shall be tailored to fit to the real needs of the pupils per grade level and thus, make an effective educational system work. As for your problem regarding memorizing that chemical periodic table, you will learn its need as you go along with your studies. You will find out that you need to have a full knowledge of all those elements in order to be able to project the most probable reactions which will take place once you combine some elements or chemicals. There are times when in college, we find that there are some subjects which we are required to take when in fact, they will be useless in our field of endeavor. And you are right. I do not know the logic behind this, though.

Yeah. I see a lot of grade school students carry books that weigh more than them. Sometimes I just wish that there is a chip that can be placed in the head to fast track learning. But of course that would make the human lazy and the quest for knowledge will not be that exciting. Some people prefer the idea of home schooling which is a good alternative to the traditional one - and less expensive too.

Actually the question here should be why do we have to study subjects that are totally irrelevant to the course we are taking up, logically and technically we wouldn't even be able to use it in any aspect of our life... Like Rizal course and Philippine History in college.. I mean what was the point of even including that in the subject line up? Though i thought taxation and Philippine Gov't Constitution sucked, I still feel that somehow it could be of use, but that of the former, what are we gonna do with that? Was that only for extra units!? They should honestly fix the curicculum.

Yes. i personally feel that they just put in some subjects just as fillers. practical subjects need to be promoted more.

While I think it's very important for kids to be proficient in the basics, I also think it's good for kids to have exposure to a wide variety of educational subjects. Not everyone is cut out for college. Some will do best in vocational careers, some in the arts, etc. I think it's best to have a wide variety of courses to choose from. This enables the child to have a more interesting way of learning. Those classes incorporate reading, writing and math, even if it's in something like acting, music or woodworking. There's lots that you won't actually use in life, but by learning those things, you are learning how to think and accomplish things on your own. It's all important for becoming a well rounded person.

as long as you enjoy learning then that would be great. learning as they say should be a fun experience.
