Adoption or Buying?

When thinking of getting a new cat, do you wait for a sign saying free kittens? Do you pick a pure breed and buy one? Do you go to the pound and adopt one? How do you choose your next furry friend?
Personal i adopt from a program in my area that buys animals from the pound. A woman pays out of pocket over 100 dollers per animal to adopt them, then gives them away to aproved homes. In turn I also foster animals. Provide them with a warm house, love, attention and food while i bring them to adoption days every week so they can find a new home.
What do you do?

Frankly, and most sure personally, I would choose to aquire a new cat or pet. Now it may be that I am a bit spycho or something, but adopting a pet, to me, is like gaining something that is tainted. I would want one that is emotionaly fresh, because it would help my own state of mind.

While i dont agree with the word tainted. I can certinly understand your viewpoint. You dont want to get an animal with bad habits or fears ect.

I too understand your viewpoint, but do not agree with tainted either. The humane society residents need good loving homes. The staff should be trained to analyze the best pet to owner situation. Some pets just need that one on one and some will be fine as long as they are given the love they so deserve.

I have used all 3 methods of obtaining pets as well as rescuing them from abusive homes and finding those animals good loving homes. I love animals so much and have found that my love for them has never been a match for their love for me.

I'll definitely adopt one or two cats from the shelter, as I've always done. My Columbus and Waffles are shelter cats. So were Leo and Rodney. I'll also take in a kitten or cat that someone I know doesn't want. That way, I know that the animal does have love, attention, a warm home and all of the food that it can eat.
