My "check engine" light came on and I got it tested they said I had a emission control leak. and it's a major one at first I thought it had to do with an oil change but the light stayed on after the oil change was done. I also just got a flow master muffler installed could this have anything to do with it? I have a Chevy Silverado 1500 4.8 liter 2004.

Hi, The check engine light was introduced to help control air pollution. The light comes on every time something is wrong in the car that cause bad emission. Sometimes it can be as simple as a loose gap cap or something critical like mis-firing or failed fuel injector. Either way the code(s) that trigger the light will tell how severe the issue is. did you know that most of the time.when the check engine light comes on it is because your gas cap is not on tight.by son-in-law took his truck to see why his check engine was staying on an they found it was his gas cap wasnt on tight.an it cost $89.00 for someone to tell him that.they told him that is what it is most of them time when they come on.or its something you shouldnt worry about.
