Why are people so damn selfish? !

Is it just me or are people becoming more greedy and selfish with each passing generation? A guy in my work was over the moon telling me he had sold a pair of worn out boots with holes in them to an immigrant worker for 2 pounds! My response was to ask why didnt you just give them to him free? Cash, he replied. How very sad.
What is wrong with these type of people..its not like he needed the money. I remember as a child how people in the community used to help each other out with clothes, food etc and little if any money was asked for. Everyone knew each others names and needs back then and there was a sense of togetherness.
What has happened today and why all the me,me, me?

it is a me world. people is dominated with materialistic perception because this world is about money! you can't live without it, but some do live FOR it! sad, right?

I agree with you , It is nicer to give then receive, when I was little we never even locked our doors and we played in the streets till our mums called for us to go home , times have changed and a lot of people sadly are money hungry xx

some people are just money hungry.an dont think about anyone but themself.like you said people dont care anymore of helping an giveing to others.i also used to give away my kids old clothes but now people sells them.these type of people are just greedy.an its sad when they can help others who cant afford to buy anything.its all greed an selfish

I agree that people are becoming very self centeres. Why they get so much pleasure from taking advantage of others is beyoud me. I do know that there are still many who are compassionate and loving towards their fellow man. It is these wonderful people that I try to concentrate on or I would just be upset all the time.

i think many people in the world think more of themselves than others, but for me i beleive that you should also think of other people too because I derived my happiness from the people around me who are happy and i know i have helped. People should remember to help other all the time because who knows that someday you will also need help.
