Morocco is a fascinating country! Either you love it or you hate it! If you really want to enjoy your stay in Morocco you should try to avoid looking at things with "Western eyes". My husband told me the first time I went to Morocco (almost 20 years ago) that I should change my brains micro chip before entering the border, because Moroccans see things in a very different way. I think he was right. But different doesn't mean it's bad, it's just not the way we are used to. I think it's really good to come to Morocco and look at life from a different angle, you can learn so much. The gmawa festival in Essaouira is world famous and a huge happening. If you have a chance to go, don't miss it! It will be a life time experience. About the beggars - oh yes, there are a lot of beggars in Morocco. Morocco is still a poor country and lots of people never really went to school so they can't read or write = no work for them in the cities. So they have to beg or steal. Which one do you prefer? I was in Morocco just this march and 2 years ago i went to see Marakesh. Marakesh is a beautiful place, but watch out for the beggers in the madina (market place). You can't miss them either, they wear bright costums and red hats with tassles on them. Enjoy your trip!
