yikes. got himself a bad habit. the only thing i can suggest is a toy. when your gonna leave, give him a fancy/intricate toy that he only gets to play with when you're gone. make it something that will make him think. or perhaps make a recording of yourself one day to play back for him the next time you leave. you dont have to be talking constantly, just every once in a while - and play it from another room. that way to him it sounds like your in another part of the house..and you periodically say something so he knows that you are "still there". hope that helps! good luck, its a hard bad habit to break especially in a cockatoo!

I try to get him new toys but most of the time he is afraid of it because he does not know what it is. Not too much fun buying a $40 toy that he does not even touch. From time to time I buy him those paper rolls from cash register. He seems to love it. I call it his toilet paper. He loves to destroy pens. Maybe I should buy a ton of pens and take out the ink and let him go nuts.

dang toys can get expensive cant they?! try sitting next to his cage (while he is out playing) and YOU start playing with the new toy,, make the usual "wow" noises etc. eventually he will get curious about what exciting thing you have that HE doesnt have. and will hopefully come down the cage over to you and try to investigate. when he finally starts reaching for it, move it away..just so its barely out of his reach. that will make him move closer to try and get it..do this 2 maybe even 3 times. it will get him past the curious part into the "i want that" stage. when that happens let him pull it away from you...even let him take it if he can hold it up. once he has decided its his, attach it to the top of his cage so he can still play with it outside. they say curiosity killed the cat, satisfaction brought it back....but nothing beats a parrot in the curiosity factor! lol
