Sheba is almost 18 years old. She is healthy if a bit slow nowadays. She had major surgery 10 years ago because she had breast cancer. She survived and has been healthy ever since. We understand that she is getting really old and we might not have her with us for long, but we keep enjoying each day with her. How old is your dog?

Smaller dogs do tend to have a longer lifespan than the larger dogs do. I know breeds like the jack russel can and do live well into their teens. No matter what the breed is, it all depends on how well you take care of your pooch. We have 2 siberian huskies. Kai is 8 years old and Tara just turned 2 years old yesterday.

My dog Sassy (a chihuahua/terrier mix) just turned 15 this year. She has arthritis and is stiff when she walks around the yard, but she manages to get around alright. For the last few months, I started noticing that she seemed to take more naps and was less alert than usual. We changed her diet a bit and it perked her right back up again. I know that her time is limited with us, so I am just thankful for everyday that she is here.

Yes, Sheba started slowing down a few years back, but it's interesting when we got tazz - our lab - she perked up big time, it seemed like she was always there teaching him this and that. She even got him to swim in the lake when we went camping even though she hadn't been swimming for a while.

i have a siberain husky that is about 7 years old, and a poodle that is 2 or so, though their both very healthly and i wouldn't be surprised if the husky lives to 15 or something lol WOW does he have a lot of energy! it seems like he never tires, perfect image of youth lol

Other than sheba we also have a black lab that is almost 4 years old. Sadly he doesn't seem to be as healthy as she was. But we're taking good care of him and making sure he's strong enough for whatever might came nest.

My 2 are getting right old. Spirit my male was approximately 15 this year and because he is a large dog from what I have been told we are very lucky to still have him. Vega the female is 11 and bigger than Spirit. The stiffness is there and the slow movement but you are correct that you just feel blessed they are still in my life

Yes ,I've been told that about the size as well. Sheba is not a big dog, and maybe that makes a difference. Although I had a big sheppard dog from the mountains in Portugal. He was quite big, but still lived until he was 16. WIsh you the best of luck with your dogs, and keep enjoying the fact that they are in your life.
