I got into jewelry making about two years ago, and I have found it to be very enjoyable. I started out making jewelry for myself, and then my friends started asking me to make them things also; and they make great gifts too. I'm just wondering if anyone else makes jewelry, and if so do you make it for yourself, others, or do you sell it? Share your craft ideas, and what do you do with your items when your finished? I am very interested to hear those who sell their handmade jewelry, and where you sell at? Share a picture of your handmade craft.

My g/f does her own jewelry. She uses the money we make on programs like MyLot,goes over to eBay,and purchase the beads, strings, other material needed. She then sleeps on it where the ideas come to her in her dreams and then creates them. She started by giving them to friends for gifts, but now takes her craft to the craft fairs where she does well.It is her hobby and she really enjoys it.

That is a great idea to purchase your craft materials with your Mylot money. I too enjoy the hobby, its a great one. Also cool that she can create what she imagines. Thank you for your response.

I can't post pics yet, because I don't have enough of a rating! However, I used to make beaded jewlery. It's just too much work for me! The beads are sooo small! I do, however, make chainmaille jewelry, and people tend to like that, as well. I'm more into making crocheted items right now (http://stitchesandsteel.etsy.com) and selling them on my website. You should try selling some of your jewelry on etsy! I bet it would sell! I haven't tried selling my jewelry there yet, but I'm sure it would sell wonderfully! Good luck!

Thank you for your response, I will defiantly check out etsy! I would love to start selling my jewelry because I make way too much to give away or wear myself. I too am into crocheting however it is very time consuming for me, once I pick up the hook I can't put it down. It is also not as convenient to take everywhere such as jewelry. Well thanks again, and good luck to you at mylot and in the world of crafting.

How are you doing on etsy? I am in the process of editing my pictures right now to fill my etsy store. I have been making bead and wire jewelry for about 4 or 5 years and have sold some to friends and given some as gifts. I have been making my own beads out of polymer clay for about 2 or 3 years now. It has gotten past being strictly a hobby but hasn't quite made it to being a business. Hopefully the etsy store will change that. I am still spending more money on the hobby than I make, but I just buy a little bit here and there and work on it as I can. I like it because I know I can make some money doing something I like!

When I was younger I used to make beaded jewelry and Christmas ornaments. I used to sell it to family and friends. I was just a teenager then so it was mainly just to be able to have more money to buy more beads. :) Now I crochet when I have any spare time which isn't much. I really enjoy making doilies, I have a hard tome reading some of the crochet books. Good luck with your jewelry making. :)

Yes, it does seem that there may not me too much of a profit by the time you buy more materials. I too am into crocheting, and although I don't read the books I would like to learn to. Also making doilies seem like fun. There pretty and seem very fun to make. Good luck on Mylot, and in the world of crafting ;) Thank you for your response

Hey good for you! Do you sell them at craft shows? You could try that or maybe online? Set up a website and go from there. I have made my own jewelry but not to sell. I crochet and cross stitch and use them as gifts and I make my own cards and gift tags as well.

That is great! In my opinion handmade gifts are worth more than anything you can buy someone. For my sister's forth birthday I plan to make her a Dora the Explor (childs cartoon) Jean Hand bag. I am going to buy the bag from a local craft store and buy the Dora patches, put them on and decorate the bag with frilly little beads, etc. Above I heard about a website that is made to sell and buy hand made items, I signed up however I am not sure when I will start putting things up for sale. Good luck to you on mylot and in the world of crafting.

I've been making jewelry for quite awhile. I dont think I can post pics yet :( I make to wear, sell and as gifts. I have a website, sell at craft fairs, home parties and teach jewelry making classes. I've also set up an etsy store I haven't posted items for sale yet but I'm really excited about it!

I make and sell jewelry (and other crafts). I've been doing it for about 6 years now. It's a great hobby, really relaxing and a fun way to be creative. I started with first just making things for myself, but very quickly I had more than I could ever wear. Then I started giving some to friends and family. Even after that I still had a surplus, so I decided to try out some holiday craft fairs to she what selling was like. I actually did pretty well, and I have been selling since. I don't make much of a profit, but I do make enough to cover supply costs. Now I sell on etsy.com, I do knitting as well as jewelry. It seems like jewelry making has gotten so popular and there are so many great options for beads and finding, that the design potential is limitless.

I've made bracelets and earrings, and I mostly give them as gifts to friends. It's nice, because it's personalized - I might make something to go with a particular dress or other accessory that they already own.

No, actually I don't make any jewelry. But, I love the handmade jewelry I see in the shops, etc. It is so unique and I think made much better than the jewelry made in factories. I know others who make it and sell it and do quite well with it. I'd be interested to see your responses and the pictures of their jewelry as well.

I enjoy the beading process and also making beads from polymer clay. I don't sell any of it though. There are little girls and some big girls in my life that like it so I just give it to them. My attempts are not professional...just for enjoyment. :)

These are clever looking... I don't make jewelry but it's interesting and I'd like to learn how. Some of the beaded jewelry I don't understand how to do the clasps and I see there are certain special tools for that. I did buy some jewelry from someone else though. A bracelet that I really like --the two end beads are magnetic! You pretty much just slap this thing on your wrist and it clasps itself. The magnet is strong enough not to come loose either. This woman sold her jewelry at craft fairs at the local colleges or churches.

I was really glad to read your discussion. I've been tinkering with making jewelry for about five years I guess. I have sold some, and made some for friends and family. I'm not into it right now, however I do have all my beads and tools and so on sitting out on a desk, beckoning to me to come a create. It just seems there's so much competition out there, and I'm not making anything that fancy. I like working with little crystal beads and sparkly beads, making little earrings and choker necklaces. I've made my own beads before, too, with that fimo clay, that was fun. I'd love to wire wrap some more, and I love making hemp necklaces as well. I have some of the earrings I've made stashed away in a plastic box. You've actually inspired me, thank you for that.

Thank you very much, it makes my day to see that I have inspired others! I too have made my own beads, in the second grade a parent came and we made real beads out of clay. I still have them to this day. I am not into little bead that much, although the are beautiful, they can be extreamly frustrating and that is mainly why I use hemp. Thank you for making my day :)

I've beenmaking my own jewellery (for myself and for selling) for, msut be going on 2 years by now? And i've been hand making my own cards to give to friends and family for perhaps 1 year. I make the jeewellery mainly to sell, but some piecies i make i like so much i have to keep them! I mainly sell my jewellery through forums online, there's one in particular where's there a craft community that i sell pieces through. I've tried e-bay, but it was rubbish!

I love making jewlery. I find it almost therapeutic to create something like jewelery. They make great gifts and are very easy to personalize. I really enjoy working with silver. Glass beads are also very nice, especially because of the variation you can get in size, shape and colour. I also enjoy using glass beads because you can make something rather elegant or you can make it fun, yet still aesthetically pleasing. I think it's also a good craft to get your children involved in. One of my friends makes jewelery that she sells in a shop she owns and she and her younger daughter, who is 12, have a lot of fun spending afternoons making jewelry together. I think it's a great way for mothers and daughters to work together and just chat.

Yep, I've started making my own jewellery. I have taken to making charms out of polymer clay, as well as wire wrapping. Both have had lots of interest from people, and I have made a decent amount from them. Of course, I don't see the profits, because I end up buying even more supplies to further my crafting addiction... lol. Just for you, I've changed my avatar to show you a piece. (Can't add a picture yet, as I have too low a post count!)

I make beaded necklaces and barettes. Mostly, I make them for myself, or give them as gifts. I have sold them at varius periods in my life. I even had a small stand outside a local gas station for awhile. It was an odd location, but we did alright with it.

How well did your jewelry do in the gas station, my family works in a gas station and I think I am going to start selling my jewelry up there. My room mate recently saw the stuff I was making and bought about thirty dollars worth of my jewelry. I was so happy :D

Lately I've been getting into it...but just simple stuff. I like to buy these beads and make bracelets out of them...but nothing difficult; just stringing them together. I work at a craft store and they have some cute things you can do like buy these necklace things and you can make things to put on them. I think they look really cute. I would like to get into those. I don't sell the bracelets I make; I just wear them.

I used to make jewlery and sell it at craft shows. However, I started to find the market was just to saturated with jewlery and it was hard to get recognized and stand out. I switched my passion over to scrapbooking and now sell that at craft fairs I am as a rule the only person there selling that so I get more contacts.
