The problem with growth....

I'm not sure why I haven't thought about this sooner. My guess it's only just hit me and the problem with growth those original members sometimes lose interest. I'll share a bit about this project with fellow mylotters and friends. Originally I started p&a off as a bit of a joke + a rush. the first domain was poetry-and-art.info and it was given to me by a friend for nothing. although apart of the deal was to attract members and that time I used a free host for the project and those who joined really clicked and I connected with each of in different ways. I started running the site very proudly and those who joined quickly became friends. It's kinda silly how you can grow attached to those who join, it's probably not healthy either. laugh out loud =) I actually miss a lot of those members and some of the recent ones as the place once again looks like it's dying. The problem with growth is also the fact you lose touch of the ground from a project. Something to keep in mind if you start your own! ~Joey P.s I don't expect responses here, Just sharing alittle background about myself with you guys.

I can relate to what you are saying. I am having the most difficult time lately keeping in touch with all my friends here and on my other social networks. It wasn't always like that, but growth does seem to become overpowering at times. I hope you are able to manage your time and not let too many of your friends slip away.

I agree with Sagemother's comments -- sometimes people just do move on to something else for a while. It's ok to take a break. Maybe you could e-mail/contact them and check in with them and see if they'd like to return and be active. Start promoting your site again and try to spark the fire in your members - might help bring the old ones back too. I have to limit where I'm at and what all I can realistically do. I have lots of irons in the fire so to speak and I have learned that I can't spread myself too thin - or else everything just goes to pot. Maybe the old members just got super busy in their lives too?

That is interesting, I run a newsletter for poetry and prose and I have 3,000 members now, I try to be as friendly as I was the day I first started it.

It looks like someone misinterpreted your title and addressed the words "problem" and "growth"....anyway.... I think the demands of real life get int he way of participating on sites we have every intention of sticking with. I tend to move through places in cycles. I have all sorts of yahoo groups and only visit ontype during a 3 month period and when my need change, I will visit some of the others. The problem with keeping people returning to a site is you hae to keep coming up iwth incentives that will draw them away from other activities, and tha tis almost impossible when you are taking care of a family and keep the wolf from the door. YOu might try posting on some writing sites to gain more exposure or join a webring for that caters to similar sites. I know there are people who are interested but to keep things lively you have to constantly seek new members.
