Sock knitting machines

Anyone else here use a sock knitting machine? They are often called CSMs or circular knitting machines as well and most are antique though a lady in New Zealand has recently started manufacturing a modern model. I love my sock machine, you can make a complete pair of socks in an hour on it, and whilst I also adore hand knitting socks its great to be able to keep the whole family in socks with the aid of the CSM.

I've never heard of a Sock Knitting machine. Is this similar to the knitting looms? Knitting looms only came to my attention a few months ago while I ws looking for a loom pattern. I found them quite interesting and was interested because you can make socks on them, I've been looking for one here in Australia to buy but I havent been successful yet. But if I were to find a specialised Sock Knitting machine I'd definately get one. So if you had any more information, I'd be happy to hear about them. I have used a knitting machine for making socks, I have a pattern which has a replaceable sole on it, which is a brilliant idea, especially for those who wear the toes out. But Ive given up on knitting machine knitting for a while, that is until my son learns its not a toy, he cant help but try and help mum, and my hard work always ends up destroyed.

If you are in Australia you should definately check out the NEw Zealand sock machine, I hear really good things about it from people who have one, the website is here http://autoknitter.com/

Well I'll admit I never heard of anything like this. I'd be curious to check into it. I saw the one link but the page didn't really give a lot of details on how it works, what it looks like etc. It showed parts of it but not the complete machine. I'll also be honest and say I never knitted a pair of socks before but I would love to. I think it would be a lot of fun to do and lets face it having a machine to help would just make it easier.

Sock knitting is great by hand, the machine does make it faster but there is nothing like hand knitting socks for portable projects and you can really go wild with the yarns and patterns.

I have never heard of such machines!!! I am going to have to look into one of these. That sounds pretty cool! I have seven children and I know that I could probably have a blast doing this! LOL I am seriously going to have to do a search tomorrow on this machine! hehe :)

Be warned that thay can be extremely expensive and there are a lot out there in poor condition. If you spot one for a few dollars in a jumble sale then buy it without a second thought, you can always sell teh parts if it won't work, but if you are buying one that is for use make sure you have good eveidence that it works before shelling out what can be hundreds of dollars. Peopel do still find them in attics, but its also tue that people can spend thousands on rare models in perfect order, so its a little bit of a gamble. THink I might do some knitting on mine today :)

I have never tried a knitting machine. I have looked at the sweater machine, and I hope to get one. I didn't know there was one to just knit socks. To be able to knit them in one hour, that would be great.
