Bob Marley said: "Reggae Will Be Big in Africa"

According to Alpha Blondy, Bob Marley said that Reggae was bound to be big in Africa. What do you think of it? Do you listen to some African Reggae artists. I remember when I was a kid, such tune such as "Sweet Sweet Fanta Diallo" by Alpha Blondy, "Together as One" by Lucky Dube were very popular throughout Africa. Lucky Dube is the South African Reggae King, singing since the Apartheid times up to this day. Alpha Blondy is from Ivory Coast, and sings in Hebrew, Arabic, French and English in his timeless tune "Jerusalem". I also listen to Ismael Isaac from Ivory Coast, but I know that Reggae is big especially through all English speaking Africa. I ve my friend from Kenya who said to me that many clubs play Reggae music there... But still to me, it seems Reggae and the Rastas in general are stigmatized and stereotyped in Africa. From my personal experience, in Gabon, people who listen to Reggae or wear dreadlocks are seen as thugs or gangsters most of the time. I think that once people start listening to the message of Reggae, they understand its more than smoking **** and lazing around. It is a true, positive message for everyone. Do you know other African reggae artists? and what do you think of the stereotypes about rastas...

Hello! Thanks for the discussion. Yea, I LOVE Lucky Dube's music. Too bad his life was taken so short. I love many of Bob Marley's songs. I like Reggae music a lot, too. Do you know any other artists that are good? Do you like any other Lucky Dube's songs? I recommend people looking on YouTube because they are videos on there that they can listen to. I think people who appear like Lucky Dube people make sterotypes but I don't try to do that. Have a wonderful day! Pablo
