Hi! From what I know, the thought processes really decline as a person ages because physiologically, the brain's gyri becomes more flattened. This is the reason why memory fails among the aged, as well as concentration, retention, and awareness or consciousness. Therefore, I could say that IQ may decline because the thought processes also undergo a decline especially during senescence (old age).

It's important to keep on learning. One way is to get yourself more informed by reading, surfing the net, or watching TV (particularly the knowledge channels). That's why there's this common belief that everyone shouldn't stop learning. We have to feed our brain all the time. This is also another reason why even with the decline of IQ, some people still hold on to their being "smart" because of their hunger for information and knowledge.

I don think iq scores do drop a bit when a person's getting older... especially when he stops reading for learning or doing some brain exercises like crossword puzzles, calculations, board games..and the like...
well, apart from iq scores dropping down..another evidence that a person's brain functions is slowly declining as he gets old is the low memory retention. almost all aged people do suffer from a bit crappy memory.

I guess so..coz it's pretty evident that our mental processes drop down a bit was we grow old..and thought it's the same case with the iq level. :P
