a friend of mine came over awhile back for a visit and I offered her a cup of tea. I started to put a cup of water int he microwave. She asked me if I wouldn't heat it up on the stove instead. She said I shouldn't use the microwave because it changes the molicular structure. I think that is what happens when you heat anything up or even when you freeze it. She said that it affects the energy negatively. Now she really lost me. What do you think is it safe?

I tried to research it on the internet and got very different opinons. One that it is safe because of the newer technology and safety standards today and the way the microwave is made to be safer. Then there is one opinion that it isn't safe no matter how they make it. I think I will continue to use it as always just out of pure habit though.

your friend is correct, microwave radiation does infact change the molecular structure of the food and *I* think it can be dangerous. It also alters the nutritional value of the food. Have you ever noticed that micro cooked or heated foods also do not retain the heat very long in comparison to conventional means? After a string of miscarriages and a still birth child we decided to get rid of the microwave oven...you know the height was always just about at level with my pregnant body. I thought there would be the added benefit of losing weight because it is just not convenient to reheat foods on the stove or in the oven, that aspect has not panned out however, as the food cooked outside the mircowave tastes so much better! the only time I really miss the micro is for reheating rice - now my leftover rice usually will get used in fried rice or soups.

It is not safe to boil water in the microwave.. the reason is because it can "blow up" once you take it out of the microwave.. which can and has caused injury to people.

That is true if you leave it too long. I read that if you stir it with a spoon before you move it out of the microwave it will make it safe. I don't leave it in that long so not sure.

it seems like it would be safe to cook food in a microwave as long as its at a certain temperature for a certain amount of time. and that goes for anything in my opinion, if you could get cement on the ground to get your food that hot, and you dont mind eating a little dirt, then that should be fine also
