What's At The End Of A Rainbow???

February 25, 2007 3:10pm CST
I was always told as a child, that I would find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, which seemed so magical. Even to this day, when I see one, I always think about what I would like to find. For me, it would have to be a big hug from my Nan. What would you like to find at the end of a rainbow?

Rainbows - The traditional description of the rainbow is that it is made up of seven colors - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.

Actually, the rainbow is a whole continuum of colors from red to violet and even beyond the colors that the eye can see.
Whats at the end of a rainbow? ummm I continue to believe that the pot of gold at the end of that rainbow is layered with love, hope, faith and all that other good stuff instead of real gold. Then I saw this picture ... Take a look...

I would find a big easy chair in which my husband's mother would be seated. There would be an empty chair beside her's that would be for me. We would have a chance to meet and talk. I would be able to thank her for the wonderful job she did raising her son and tell her what a wonderful husband and father he is.

That was very moving, you are a lucky woman!!!! Thanks

I so wish that I had been able to meet her before she passed. My husband tells such wonderful stories of her. She did a great job in raising him. Thank you for the 'best response.'

I love rainbows. And I always heard the pot of gold story when I was growing up too. As for what I would like to find............... well a sunny world full of flowers, I think, with all the beloved cats I have loved and lost over the years waiting to play with me, and a big cuddle from my beloved late Mother.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it sounds like a wonderful place to be.

As wonderful as it would be to find the pot of gold, I hear the little leprechaun is a fisty one! When I see a rainbow, after marveling at the little miracle I am witnessing I also imagine what could lie at the end. I picture it as a beautiful mystical meadow. The greenest grass, with the most brilliant dew upon each blade. The most vivid colorful flowers one could create in the best of imaginations. The sun would be shining brightly without a cloud in the sky to hinder its glory. of course there would be fuzzy bunnies, graceful fawns and many other of Gods creatures romping and playing without fear in this beautiful meadow. Maybe off in the distance would be a magical cottage, near a flowing river of bright blue. A cottage where I could take my children and raise them in a world of peace and hope. The cuboards always full, the linens always fresh. Our only reason for existance, to enjoy life...to laugh, love, and live each day with a wholeness in our hearts. I guess I really am a dreamer...Oh and of course there has to be a unicorn, because where else would a mystical creature like that live except at the end of the rainbow in the meadow of my mind!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but a rainbow isn't real. It's an optical illusion caused by light. AND a rainbow doesn't have an end because it goes all the way round in a circle. Ever wonder why there's so many stories about what's at the end of a rainbow? And why no-one has ever FOUND the end of one? Sorry, but that's scientific fact!

I hope you get your hug too! I would like to find a beautiful land with fairies and angels and magical beings where I would feel loved, save and happy, and could go whenever I wanted. I was told that a Rainbow collects souls and they ascend to heaven from the top. Another story is that our pets wait for us on a Rainbow until we dye and go with them to heaven. Rainbow at night, shepherd's delight; Rainbow in morning, shepherds take warning If there be a rainbow in the eve,It will rain and leave; But if there be a rainbow in the morrow It will neither lend nor borrow Rainbow to windward, foul fall the day; Rainbow to leeward, damp runs away."

What would I like to find at the end of the rainbow? Well the pot of Gold of course! and I have found the pot of Gold!. The Golden Pot is the Sky it turns pure golden like this! as I recognized the other day Rainbows were forming off our marsh! http://www.shareapic.net/content.php?id=1961378 I have only been able to tell that is what is going on, because in year 1999. I was in my bedroom, and It was raining lightly and the sun was shining, and next I know.. I see this rainbow so bright, that drew me so strongly to it, appear within yards from my house. I remember I ran out there, barefooted, in the mud, and everything else, to get close to this rainbow, to see if their was a pot of gold. The Sky appeared like the picture above, and water itself looked like pure, Liquid gold!. So I quickly dipped my hands into the water and wiped my face, hands and arms down with it as I was literally surrounded and engulf in rainbow color that was so strong, that I was rainbow colored too. My Dad saw it also. He said within his 50 years of life he has never seen anything like, and has definately never heard of anything like it. We took this as a very good sign. So yes, there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but not in the way we may always think of it as, as the little leprechauns guide the water from the puddle to the plants, and the Rain spirits are finished dropping their rain, the rainbow fades away. I found hope and enlightenment at the end of the rainbow. - DNatureofDTrain

Next to butterflies, I love rainbows the best. I grew up with the pot of gold story also. When I got older and realized it was just a story it didn't seem to matter to me; rainbows are such a beautiful remembrance of how The Lord made a promise never to again flood the earth. That is the purpose of rainbows and He did good..!

Its so nice to have had such awe and wonder when we were kids. This is why I don't understand some people who put on discussions that say telling stories like this to their kids is a bad thing. It gets our imagination going and we can certainly cope when we know it isn't true. I haven't heard this concept before, but it is a very moving story, even to someone who is a non-believer. Thank you!!

I was told the same thing. I remember once being near the end of one when I was younger and I went looking to see if I could find anything. Personally I'd enjoy finding anything. especially if it leaves with a nice memory and something which I really value. Maybe book with flash backs =) Kudos ~Joey

Wouldn't that be great. I would love to be able to view my childhood like that. Although I have cine films of me as a child, it never captures those special moments. Children are so lucky nowadays, with us parents taking loads of photos and getting the camcorder out at every given opportunity. Thanks for your comments.

yep. according to the legends, there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. i would like to continue believing in that. it will seem like a dream! i hope there are lots of flowers and butterflies too in different colors. wouldnt that be nice?? ^__^ but as we all know, at the end of the rainbow is water. because when the sun shines, the water seems to be like a prism that reflects the colors of the rainbow. have you seen a rainbow around the moon? i've seen them for a couple of times. and i havent researched on how it forms there.

i thought Lucky Charms were at the end, in a black culdron. sorry to blow your ideas, but i think all you'll find in truth is the ground and whatever was there before the rainbow came. you should search rainbows, its actually very interesting the way light shines through the atmosphere and creates the colors. check it out.

A safe haven, a place where there is always the smell of cut grass, sunsets and streams, where peace prevails and every wish you could want is laid out for you. A green land, not marred by smog, smoke or chemicals. A place where you can be free, a place where life is what life should be and that's fun. It should be everyone's idea of heaven. Not so much a pot of gold, but a pot of dreams.

I love to see rainbow as they look so beautiful. As a child I really believed that there was gold at the end of one. I couldn't understand why no one ever wanted to go searching for it with me. It seemmed like a great way to make money. I would still love to find a pot of gold - anywhere.
