I realize that writing for money is a dream for alot of people but for me it is a serious dream that I want to come true. I have searched the internet for all sites that are not scams and they are few and far between. I have found some reputable sites but it covers mainly publishing your own works. I have had some good employed writing experience but I want steady stay at home computer writing work.

You'll find a lot of markets in the Writer's Market, a reference that you can buy or look at for free at your library's reference department. Two reputable sites that feature markets for writers are writersweekly.com and writing-world.com. They also have great articles.

It's probably better to find yourself a full-time writing gig at a publication to support yourself. Many pubs know that they don't pay enough to live and don't mind you freelancing on the side as long as it's not a conflict of interest. And many freelance writing jobs aren't telecommuting... they require you to show up to the office every now and again because the editors want to make sure they're getting what they pay for.

I second the poster who mentioned Associated Content. I don't know if I could make an actual living from AC, with a mortgage and other bills, but so far for me it has been a wonderful extra income. I've also seen and taken advantage of some interesting opportunities through the job bank at http://www.freelancewriting.com. Best of luck to you! Let me know if you do decide to write at AC - I'm always interested in reading what others are writing and supporting others who dream of making a living with words.

There are a few sites that will pay you for submitted articles. AssociatedContent and Helium are just a couple of them. If you're more interested in writing an actual book, check out your self-publishing options at www.lulu.com
