This is a true story: Not because the events in it actually happened. Not because the people in it are real.
This story is not autobiographical. I am not Dory, but I have known her. Many of us have known Dory. Some of us were just not aware of it. Maybe you are Dory, but you never told anyone.
There are many girls like Dory. They live with the pain of an awful secret, and they are afraid to tell anyone. They need to tell someone. Someone needs to help them. For it is an awful and unnecessary evil that they live with: Someone close to them is abusing them in unspeakable ways.
This is so evil, that this manuscript was rejected by many traditional book publishers. I guess they thought the public couldn't handle it. The original manuscript was written in the 1980's, but the subject is timeless. Even now in the next millenium, the subject remains taboo. The need for it to open up is becoming more and more urgent as time moves on, yet with the loosening morality of society the ugliness goes on unseen, almost accepted.
If you know Dory, or if you are Dory, don't stay silent anymore. Don't be afraid. You are not alone. Speak to a friend, a trusted family member, a spiritual counselor, a teacher, or a crisis intervention counselor. Below is a link to the Resources page, with links that may be good places for you and your confidante to start seeking help. Also linked is the SPEAK OUT!! Forum where you can feel free to post your thoughts, fears, and experiences about this controversial subject without fear of ridicule or judgement from other. If you know of resources that others may find helpful, please post them under the appropriate forum heading.
