I was roughly 20 when I received my first tattoo. And now many years later my son has brought up the idea for himself.I told him to wait untill he was a bit older but still he insists of getting one soon.He is only 16.Do you think thats too young? I am debating if I should take him.

Well growing up in a small town there was'nt much to do except drink and do bad things. I ended up getting my first homemade tattoo at 14 and it was a cross on my right shoulder. Then when I was 16 me and a friend went on a 2 week vacation and I got my real tattoo in British Columbia. Its a tribal arm band.

I got one when I was 19. I still like it but I'm not sure I would have had it done if it was now. And I still think of things I'd like tattooed now and then go off the idea after months of thinking about it. Its a tough one, sometimes people regret them even if they got them when they're older. I thought you had to be 18 anyway. Its your own disgression whether you let him, I personally wouldn't, but if you do... make sure he goes to a good one with some certificates or something, make sure the place is sterile, ESPECIALLY the needles!!! Hope whatever happens goes well :)

It's a very bad idea. Not because I think he's too young, but his skin is not done growing yet, and it will not keep well in his skin. Many places won't even tattoo kids under 18, even with parental concent. Also, tell him that he should pick his design and if in two years he still wants it, you'll help him pay for most or all of it.

i got my first tattoo at 13. i now think that was too young to really be able to decide what you will want for the rest of your life. i don't really regret my tattoos because i look at them as memories but sometimes i do wish i wouldn't of waited until i was older.

I was 18. Is he passionate about it? I would ask him why he wants it so bad. Is it because he wants to remember something? Does he want a symbol of something in his life? Remind him why alot of people get tattoos in the first place...in order to remember or to symbolize something. For instance, I got a sun which represented a new beginning and stepping out on my own. Something simple might not mean alot to him years down the road. Hopefully he'll understand and he'll really think about what he wants. If you arent ready for him to get one, maybe suggest that he get one for his 18th birthday, and it'll be his birthday gift! Those things aren't cheap!

16 is far too young, as others have said the skin hasn't finished growing and also a lot of countries ban tattooing for under 18's even with parental consent. I was 23 when I got my 1st one and 24 when I got my second and am glad that I did and don't regret them at all

I was 16 when I got my first tatoo and were I have done if you don't have 18 you have to have your parent permission. So my mom went with me. At first I wanted my nickname but my mom said that maybe that nickname will change one day and we choose together a beautiful butterfly. I still like it a lot. You have to ask your son why he wanted one and what he wanted also. If he only wanted to do it because everyone as one, thenm you should say no. Just discuss with him.

Personally, I think 16 is too young. I got my first tattoo when I was 25 and was absolutely sure of what I wanted. here is the problem you are faced with. If you say no and he goes behind your back then he is going to have to go to a shop that will tattoo him knowing he is underage and without parental consent. The only shops that will do this are places where I wouln't want to be tattooed, or worse yet a scratcher who tattoos out of his basement. You have tattoos, so you know the drill. Take him to a shop you trust, see what he wants to get done (if it's something ridiculous or something he randomly picks from the flash cards on the wall, then put your foot down and say no). If it's an acceptable piece, and the tattoo artist does good quality work and is willing to do it then I say go ahead.

I was 17 when is got my first tattoo. My mom and I took my brother who is 16 to get his first tattoo. He loves it. But it also means something. ASk him what he wants to get and if it has any meaning, I wouldn't let him get just any old tribal tat.

Well I was 30 when I got my tattoo. I think that if he wants to get something that is symbolic and important to him (and not just some silly fad thing) it is not too young. Its hard to debate the issue when you yourself have one, but you do have a point asking him to hold off until he is older. If he wants a tattoo for the sake of having a tattoo then I would definitely refuse to take him.

I never ever got one nor do I desire to ever get one. i do not think I want to be an 80 year old woman with a tatoo. It seems to be a real fad in the last few years but i think it will come and go and a lot of people will be sorry they ever got one, just my opinion.

I was 12 when I did get my first tattoo. Oh do I regret it now. I wish I would of waited till I was older. As a mother I would make my daughter wait till they were atleast 18. Then they can make up their minds. Good luck with this.

I was 16 when I got my first one, and if I could go back now I'd get something different. But like they say, hindsight is 20/20.

Honestly, I knew my parents wouldn't let me get a tattoo and here in canada you can't get a tattoo without parental concent until your over 18. I went and got my first one the day after I turned 18. I got it in a place that was easy to hide (belly) but I kinda wish that I hadn't now. Reason being that I recently had a baby so now my tat is just a little stretched out lol.
