The chances are, if you get the first part of this sentence you can finish it with "you killed my father: prepare to die!" And you will then probably laugh. If you don't get it, we've arrived at the topic stuck in my craw tonight. Some time ago I made this rather exhaustive list of things I was looking for in an ideal mate, and it included even seemingly trivial things like "my future mate must be a Harry Potter nerd." And yeah, I'd rather like that, and don't know that I could date someone that wasn't a Harry Potter nerd. The main reason for that can be summed up in a funny icon a friend left me as a MySpace comment. It said "I make random Harry Potter references, just to see if anyone gets them. (they never do.)" Yeah, I do. And I'd prefer that my future romantic interest got my jokes. Like one of my MyLot friends said, when I'm saying good bye to people I often say "Have fun storming the castle!" There are just certain movies, books, bands and such that I wouldn't be me without. Do you have things like that? Things that your significant other should ideally be into also, because they're so much a part of who you are?

okay.. i feel like a real blonde now.. lol.. I read this post a few minutes ago and have been muddling through it in the back of my head since then.. I can see the scenes, the actors and everything because it was a fabulous show but I just couldn't come up with the name of the movie in my head.. I came back to this discussion to break down and look like an idiot and ask what the heck the name of that movie was and there it was in the tags "Princess Bride". I ~so~ have to find a copy of that movie for my kids, I bet they'd love it just as much as I did.

Heheh I've done that so you aren't alone. They do sell it at Wal-Mart. I saw it there recently but I already have a copy. It is one great movie and I have to agree that some of the lines are ones that I will spout from time to time.

Yes I think there are as well. Maybe they won't like all the things I like, which is fine but I think there are a few that we should have in common. Star Trek is one that comes right to mind. Harry Potter as you mentioned. Yes I do quote Princess Bride now and then :) It was a great movie. I also quote Miss Congeniality as well. I think movies and shows effect who we are in some way and there should be something we have in common with our significant other.

I could actually hang with you on all of those--even Miss Congeniality. Sandra Bullock is one of my personal goddesses. Anyway. I really do make random Harry Potter references just to see if people get them--And I try to Crucio people that cut me off in traffic. I guess Bellatrix needs to teach me how. *drool* God Im a nerd.

So where's the 6 fingered man? I think everyone has certain interests that are part of them. I don't think it is necessary to be interested in all of them e.g. my husband is into planes and cars both of which completely bore me, i'm into science fiction which he doesn't like, but we have lots of stuff in common.

I think it's important to share a sense of humor or at least compliment one another. My humor tends to be more sarcastic, while my husband's is practically slapstick. But, we work and I think that's what matters. I must say your subject line is great, though. Love that movie. My sister and I loved constantly saying "Maawwwwaaaiige". Hmmm, funny now we're adults and if we watch The Princess Bride, we'll still do it. :)

Hehe! Your post made me smile! I adore the Princess Bride, and quite often quote from it. Problem is, only one of my friends has seen it, so people just don't get it, especially when I fall about laughing after. My friend and I also have a bit of a competition where we have to say 'You have a nice chin.' to as many people as possible, without them getting suspicious. (That is a quote from another film, and if you know what it's from I'll be amazed!) But to answer the actual question, I don't think that there is anything for me that a significant other would have to be into. I think that differences are what makes people interesting. Saying that I tend to let my interests rub off on people that I spend a lot of time with anyway. To end, I think that any future mate would have to be open minded about my interests, especially in music, literature and films. I don't mind if they aren't overly into what I am, but it's always nice to be able to talk about things!
