What do you want to do when you grow up?

February 26, 2007 4:08am CST
I'm 33 years old and I still don't know what career I want to do. What about you? Are you doing what you always wanted or are you still wondering? If you are in the career of your choice how did you decide it was for you?

I would love a job in graphic arts- I love working with the computer to create stuff- however I never went to school for it I only have a little expierence in it so it is difficult to find someone willing to train, but I still always check the paper you never know. My ultimate job would be to draw for Disney, but since i don't draw that well that's not gonna happen..lol

When i was 9 i wanted to be a lawyer,i often watched L.A. Law then and i really wanted to be one.Until i was told lawyers can't go to heaven because they often lie to win a case. So next, i wanted to be a doctor to treat the sick. But unfortunately my family isn't well-off to send me into a medical school so i didn't become one. I become a marine biologist instead, well next to loving to be in bed sleeping, i love the ocean so thats why i got into this field. However, work in this field is scarce in our country, that sometimes i found my self not having a permanent job only contractual ones are available. I have an offer to teach freshman this coming semester in a university. I am 25 now, i want to have a stable job whether it be in teaching or in research before i get married because when i will decide to have a family i don't think i should be away travelling a lot, but i want to be a hands on mom and a wife more than having a career.

I am not in my career choice quite yet but I am working on it. I am going to college to become a nurse. I have wanted to be a nurse since I was a child. I also once thought about being a teacher but I really perfer nursing. There is career exploration software out there called Choices. It asks you alot of questions and then tells you what you would be good at. You can probably get access to this software at a college or a local unemployment office.

When I was young my childhood dream is to become a rocket scientist. As I grow older, reality check comes in, and so i opt for my second love: business. Right now, I'm doing what I wanted, although I must say I suck at this!lol! But I'm not giving up, its still too early to say that I'm a failure. And I hate giving up, and so I will persist in my endeavor until I succeed.

I don't think of it as a career. I don't go out to work. I am a poet, so I make my own hours. I have no boss. My office is wherever I am in the mood to write at any gven time. The power of the pen and the unspoken word. Gotta love it!

I don't think often about what i want to do exactly...might lead to frustration afterwards....i just try to live according to my principles and be as happy as i can. I just want to be happy, have a family and have my love very close to me, that's the essential lol :)

i took up Biology way back in college, but had to shift courses as my parents wanted me to take physical therapy. i was feeling so bad since i have had friends there already but i have to go to their wishes. i took and finished physical therapy and gained more friends. i never thought i would have this degree but i always wanted to be in the medical field. when i was little, i always dreamt of becoming a teacher and wanted to have my own school, but after college and realizing that i do not have the teaching skills i just laughed that dream off. but after graduation, i havent had the chance to practice my degree because of failing the exams. and God gave me another open window.. i have been practicing medical transcription now for the past five years of life... i think He basically knows that this is where i should be as I am really good at this and he gave me the skills to do this.. so all of my college years are merely preparation and the typing school i took in high school is also a preparation for a long-term career.
