Are there new Operas?

I just read about an opera i never heard of before, and thought this must be a new one. Turns out it was made in the 1920s. I realized all the operas i ever hear about are the old, famous ones. Are there new Operas beeing made, or are the opera-halls just doing the old shows in new ways?

From 15th century till the begining of nineteenth century operas were dominating the entertainment world. Now they are outdated, but never lost their charm. All present operas are based on old tales.
