What do you know about tattoo removal?

I recently posted a discussion on piercings and tattoes. After going through all the replies, I got to thinking about tattoo removal. There is a lot of discussion on tattoes and getting them or having them, but what happens when you change your mind or you want it removed? Is it painful, exspensive, can it be done successfully? If you know of firsthand experiece with this or know someone who had dealt with this, I'd love to hear from you.

They use the same laser that they use to correct uneven skin pigments in any skin care clinic. Itisn't a big deal. they run the laser over the skin and the laser picks up on the discoloured pigment and it hits it fading it out. Nearly always one would need more than one session as it will fade it out until it is no more. It doesn't hurt but it is surprising evrytime it finds the pigment it makes a little snapping sound and smells a little strange. It will leave a little ashy looking patch but it doesn't hurt and you can go out immediatly afterwards. I had this done to remove my freckles and the lady tried to get me to let her do it on my tattoo. (That I had JUST gotten done) I told her no way! heh heh but it is the same procedure.

That is so interesting. It is not painful, I thought it would be painful, especially with a laser. Is it exspensive and do you know if it leaves any type of scarring?

It is a UV type laser. (Depending on the clinic. Good clinics would have these machines they are new and modern.) It just concentrates on pigment and kind of like "Zaps" it. There is no scar, no scratch, no pain, just a little dark ashy spot that will go away in a week or less. It felt a little weird when the laser zapped the spot but it didn't hurt. I think the only thing is that even though I expected it, everytime it would make that snapping sound it would startle me a little. Hardly felt it at all. It is hard to describe that little sensation but it is far less feeling than someone lightly placing their finger on you. As I said, I had the same procedure done on my face. I got it done after work and went back to work the next day. There was nothing except a mild pinkness and a few ashy spots where the laser picked up a bunch of freckles but that spot went away after 3 days and was easily covered by makeup. It wasn't that pricey but not too bad in my opinion. It depends on the clinic and the area it is located. Some are extremely expensive but then you go to another area and find a clinic with the same equipment and techniques but it is cheap.... All depends. I was living in USA for a little while when I had it done in a wonderful and up to date clinic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was like $75 per session and I had 5 sessions and got an extra for free. All my freckles were gone and my skin was even. I would recommend them.

That is indeed not a bad deal, at all. So it would be possible to have a tattoo removed without pain. That is wonderful for those who perhaps don't like their tattoos any longer. Thank you for the information.

It is a little expensive, not too painful, and done with a lazer.

This is such a welcomed thing to hear. I have always heard bad stories about having surgical removal of tattoo. That IF it could be done it would be painful. This is great!
