Overweigh Child Risks Care

Well im not sure if any of you people have seen the Uk news today. An 8 year old boy weighing 14 stone belonging to a loving family is being threatend to put into care by a local authority. Due to the boys age the local authority where the boy lives are threatening to take him off his parents and put him into care. The mother of the child says it is not her fault as he always wants to eat. In defense of the child he has lost over a stone and a half. I personaly think that people should be given support and be aloud some time to fix the issue. Im just wondering what everyones views on here are do you agree the child should be taken into care? or should other methods of help be give.

I think they should be allowed some time , The mother probably thought she was rewarding the child , and be honest I think some deprived people have no idea what " calories " are in a lot of foods , I think to that its worse in some countries more than others , Fast food is often all they eat , someone could sit with the mother and explain about food calories and fats and let her try to work with the child first xx

I think the child should undergo hormone functions tests and have a nutritionist plan a diet for him. After 6 months if the parents have not been able to help him loose weight and it can be proven to be a failure on their part the child should be placed with people who will help him get healthy.

the mother IS to blame this child had to have been overfed from birth and to me this IS a form of child abuse!

I have a couple of thoughts on this. There is a rare disease--who's name escapes me right this minute--where people just eat and eat and eat. Never feel full. Usually mental retardation goes along with it, so a problem should have been spotted by the child's doctor a long time ago. Then there are misguided parents! Which is far more common. I would like to see more details about the situation before I made a very strong comment either way. I generally would like to see the whole family worked with and educated before giving up, but if they're talking that strong a move (removing the child), then maybe the doctor has tried to intervene.
