Does anyone know of any support for a widow?

Does anyone have any info on how a widow can get support. My mother which I am taking care of is left with a burden of debt and an upaid house. Just wondering if anyone knows any organizations or government help for a widow? She is really sick and she is still mourning over the death of her husband. (btw I do support my mother but, I am indep. on my own)
