If you found a lump under your skin, what would you do?

Would you go to the doctor and seek medical advice? Or would you try to forget it was there and hope it goes away? When I was 16 I found a lump in one of my breast, it was a pretty worrying time. I decided to go to the doctors to get it checked out, to put my mind to rest. It turned out to be a cyst, which eventually went down but scared the hell out of me none the less. I have to say, I am glad that I got it checked out, there is nothing worse than having your mind worrying on something you don't have the full facts about. A few months ago, I discovered another lump, this time situated below the centre of my rib cage. I went to the doctors, but neither the doctor or myself could locate it. Just recently i've noticed some discomfort and sure enough the lump is there and easy to locate. I plan to get it checked out again but i'm not going to worry about it, until i'm in possession of the full facts ans to whats the cause is.

This always worries me, yes I would be straight to the doctors to get it checked out without a second thought, even if I found a lump in my testes. BUT! The waiting list for the NHS is up to six months, if you find a lump, by then it might be too late to catch it? I had a bladder problem and hopefully it's not serious, but I've had to wait six months to get it fully seen to. What if it turns cancerous within those six months? They keep on at you to catch these things early, but even if you do, you still get put on a never ending waiting list!

wolfie They are really good with anything Cancer wise. If a Doctor thinks you have anything cancerous there is NO waiting list you automatically go straight to the top of the list... Thats what happened to me

Go to the doctor !! I've had several lumps removed .. they've all been cysts .. but even if they weren't I'd have got to the docs as early as possible so I know if I needed treatment I'd have got the help I needed long before anything too nasty had developed .. No point in waiting .. that's a certainty that you're in for a worse time than needs be if anything is untoward .. I'm sure your lump will tuen out to be another cyst .. just make sure you go and get it checked out asap .. we have a small injuries clinic in the local hospital and they see you immediately .. perhaps you have one near to you

i suggest you have that lump checked now. oftentimes serious diseases come from simple illness left untreated, unchecked because of our neglect. if i found a lump under my skin, i will contact a doctor immediately and have it checked and get the proper medications. health is wealth. we can't remain passive about the symptoms of illnesses our bodies are showing. we need to act on them before things get worst.

chele i am recommending you to see a doctor because no matter what it is in this stage it could be cured but if you'll neglact it you may regret it i know i am oneof those people that try to forget about the problem and hope that the next morning it will disappear but it is wrong..and believe me i know it because of my mistakes i got myself a few times into a bigger problem so te best idea is to go and be checked i am sure everything will be alright there is nothing you can not handle:)

Always get them checked out just to be on the safe side. When I was in in jr. high I had lumps in my chest... many in fact and pea sized hard lumps in my rib cage, I was convinced I had cancer, but was too scared to tell my mom. I didn't want a doctor looking at me and feeling me either, so I waited a couple years if you can believe it to say anything. Turned out it was fibrocystic disease and not anything that was all that uncommon, certainly not fatal. I wished I had been braver earlier so I'd not spent those two years thinking I was dying! As an adult I remember what that experience taught me. It's always better to just know. Usually it's not your worst fear, then you'll have peace of mind when the dr. confirms you're ok. If it is something more cynister, it's even more important to have it looked at for obvious reasons. I'm not as afraid of cancer as I used to be. Have known sooo many who've fought that battle victoriously. They've made great advancements, especially if you catch those lumps in the early stages. I wish you well!

I've discovered various lumps throughout the past few years on myself. Some of them are in scary spots (like next to my spine). When I've had them checked out, they've all been fatty tissue called "lipoma." Nonetheless, it put my mind to rest.

I would have gone to the doctor too. You never know what it could have been. Especially since you were only 16 at the time. You may not be too concerned right now but I would still go to the doctor again to make sure it's just a cyst. If it's not then you could at least catch it early on. Good luck.

I would definately always ssek medical advice in these instances. Most of these things are curable these days, if you catch them early, and treat them early. I have never found a lump as such, but last year I did have some symptons that led my GP to believe I was suffering from cancer of the uterus, so I do know what it's like to be scared, and have to undergo tests, and biopsies and the like. I had an exploratiry operation, and it proved to be benign, but it is always better to be safe then sorry. I would never ignore my health. I hope you will be OK - take care.

Any kind of lump under the skin requires a blood check up, you have to find out the reason of lump formation. It is a kind of malignancy or a tumor. It may be cancer. You can start a breathing exercise called yoga and pranayam. If you will perform it regularly then the lumps formation will be stoped for ever.

I have found concerning lumps twice--once in my neck and once in a private area. With my neck I was in the doctor's office the next morning. After trips to three different hospitals and blood tests and ultrasound it was determined to be a 1.5" complex cyst in my thyroid. It was benign, and got much smaller after an aspiration biopsy. The other time I discovered lumps I didn't think should be there and I couldn't explain, I was in the ER that night to get it checked. It was nothing. Apparently I am just bumpy. But I am not someone who can wait when things like unchecked growth of mutant cells is concerned.

I would do what I have done in the past and that is go straight to see my Doctor. I was then sent to the local hospital for tests and was luckily given the all clear. In fact yesterday I was in hospital for tests for something else and have now to return in a few weeks as things are not looking good. Going to the doctor is a scarey thing to do but it had to be done, if things are just left then they can get worse and it could then be too late to do anything.
