I don't really look at my money like that. My money comes in at different times in the month so I always have to be working out how much I have left to spent, or how much I need in my account for my various bills. I just buy the minimum I can get away with and then save as much as I can. I occasionally buy my girls a little pressie.

I am also a single mother and i pretty much work exactly as you do! The first thing that i also always do is go and pick up the groceries unfortunately i am not much of a saver although i think i need to change this part about me ... LOL! When i have the extra cash i also like to pick up a little bit extra for the girls!

I try to always put some money off the top for later. Not long term savings, wish I could start contributing to that, but for short term savings. My partner & I are both self-employed. It always seems that it's feast or famine for us. We're either both really busy and making a fair living or our businesses are both really slow. Thankfully, we've gotten a bit better with putting some aside when it is busy to carry us through the slow times. After I put away the money for later, I figure out which bill/bills are due the soonest & start paying.
