I'm on the search for alternatives for Chronic Pain. I do not have insurance and very little money. I also have a lot of allergies that prohibit many over the counter medications. So I'm trying to find other ways to help with my chronic pain.
Right now I have injuries in my neck, upper back, lower back, hips, hands, shoulders..just about everywhere from my head on down to my hips. Thankfully normally my knees and such do not cause me a lot of pain. I also have degenerative disc and joint disease which just adds to it all.
So I'm looking for something that I can use to help with the pain. If anyone has any home remedies, herbs, right now if you told me standing on my head I'd probably try it but anyway if you know of something that works for you can you please share it?

i am very sorry i will not recomeend you to stand on your head when you still can get relief from all pain.first of understand what is a disease .believe me all diseases are not your enemies all diseases are natures way return to health, for eg:if you take castore oil you will have faster bowel means to expel the castor oil which is a toxin to the body the body will try to remove it as fast as possible in this eg it expels through the diarrhea.like that pain in joints means there are toxind in the joints and the air in your joints is not been able ot move freely ,these theories may bore you.
but try this change your diet ,have diet only 3 times a day eat leafy vegetables and raw vegetables ,if possible try to live on fruits of 2 weeks ,(dont mix sour fruits with sweet fruits )this will defenitely take care of your problem.
or if cant change diet try to learn yoga pranayama
vist www.divyayoga.com .watch t.v programmes listed inthat site. do if for one hour .100%cure guarentee with in one month, may be two month
learn naturopathy ,self heal ,be your own doctor ,be proud of yourself,
visit websites on nautropathy www.drbass.com etc
try fasting
now stand in your head

I'm none too thrilled with medications of any kind myself...for a good long time, I've been suffereing from a lot of joint pain just about everywhere--my feet, ankles, wrists, joints, on and on and at times honestly I feel like a decrepit old lady--LOL--I've been reading up on that Glucosamine/ Chondroitin/MSM combo, plus the benefits of Omega 3 and fish oils...so giving it a go...it says it takes a good month to really kick in for benefits, and I've only been taking it for about a week, but I swear I feel a tad better..can actually walk now...yes that's how bad I've been. A lot of pain...as for pain itself...I usually just rely on good ole aspirin. As for standing on your head...mmm....could work...that is one of the Yoga postures you know--LOL

Believe me I do understand the feeling of being a decrepit old lady. I'm 38 and I've been told my back is what most expect in an 80 year old or older woman. I wish I could take the Glucosamine and many of the others but they have Iodine in them which I'm allergic to. That's what makes it so rough for me to find anything that works. I'm glad to hear though it's working for you. I know for some it does.
Hey at this point I'm willing to try the rack. Actually I think that might feel a good in some ways :)

Isn't it miserable to feel far older then our years? I could understand it if I'd led a life full of danger and such, you know where I put my body through a lot of trauma, but I've led a fairly boring life. It's very irritating when I should be able to do a lot more.

HAve you tried meditation? I have a CD that I can't live without. It is called....Pain Control With Emdr by Mark Grant. (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR consists of a combination of various elements of standard approaches to pain management, together with innovations such as dual focus of attention and bilateral stimulation. Although EMDR initially utilized bilateral eye-movements (EM's), bilateral tones and tapping are now also utilized. One of the central elements of EMDR is a desensitization procedure in which the patient is assisted to focus on the negative thoughts feeling and sensations associated with their problem, whilst simultaneously attending to a bilateral stimulation (visual, auditory or tactile). This is frequently followed by change in the level of distress associated with the problem.

Hi I suffer from chronic pain too unfortunately I am not as brave as you and take over the counter medicines, but some alternatives I would recommend is aromatherapy (lavender is good as a relaxant) Reflexology and any natural tablet for relaxing the muscles. Deep heat is good as well as is tense machines and might be worth investing in.

Oh trust me I do take medication when I can I just have to becareful on what I take. I'm brave but I'm not that brave.
I use BenGay a lot. He's my best budy and I go to bed with him and wake up with him all the time :) It does work with a lot though. Deep Heat is also good and so is Icy hot. I've alternated between them but I usually end up back with Bengay (or the generic of it anyways)

I feel so sorry for you. It can be very difficult with no insurance. Have you tried a rice pack? It is easy to make and you heat it in the microwave or freeze it in the freezer. Take a tube sock and fill it about 1/2 to 3/4 full of rice Tie the end shut.
There are many ways to make them look nice. I think I did a discussion on them when I firt joined mylot. Anyway, if you need heat, put it in the microwave for about 2 minutes.

I have used hot and cold packs and they can work I agree. Never heard of a rice pack though. Will have to try that. I'm willing to try anything to be honest. The pain can get bad. Bengay helps with some but I get tired of being stinky as my neice calls it :)

I use epsom salts. Here is what Wiki has to say abou their use with pain: "Epsom salts are also available in a gel form for topical application in treating aches and pains. Intravenous use is broadening, as magnesium sulfate reduces striated muscle contractions and blocks peripheral neuromuscular transmission by reducing acetylcholine release at the myoneural junction, as well as other effects."

Thanks :) I wish I could use that though. I'm allergic to sulfates so have to be careful what I'm exposed to but for others I bet it would work great for them. For those I'm really glad you posted. Hopefully they will get some relief.
