Dry Feet

I was curious to find out if anyone else deals with very dry skin on the feet. Mine gets very bad where the skin will crack. I seem to have inherited this problem from my father, thankfully though not as bad as his since his will crack and bleed when it gets really bad. I wanted to find out if anyone else has this problem and if so what they do to help with it. So far the best I have found is soaking them, scraping off the dead skin afterwards, and then lotion. Sometimes this works for a while but not for long. I have used foot files and that too works for a while but if I miss a day of putting lotion on it comes right back. So any suggestions on what to do to help with this?

hi emeraldisle!!my boyfriend has the very same problem that you have, it's a genetic disease and unfortunately, it is inherited. he inherited it from his mother, and his cousins also have the same problem. do you have a chinese descent? chinese people often have this problem because their race has sensitive skin. anyway, since i am a nurse, i researched on this problem so that i can help him. and you know what i found out? "moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!" was the only solution to this. whenever you find time to put lotion on your feet, do it. never put a shoe without putting lotion first. after you shower, before you sleep, or even after you sweat at the gym, let lotion be your everyday quirk. thankfully, my boyfriend's last "attack" of dry feet was last year in the month of May. and since then he never had this yet until now. and he can consume 500 ml of jergens moisturizer in 15 days because it became one of his "quirks". well, i hope i helped you. God bless!!=)

well it sounds like we all have this problem. i have it bad right now. i only use a foot file. i have tried everything. my whole body is dry. i have to use moisture therapy from avon. if i don't use it then i don't look pretty. usually my feet are nice in the winter, but this winter, yuck. i don't wear shoes in the summer, or just sandals, so it is bad. i find if i put lotion on my feet and then put shoes on it makes my feet smell. so now i don't put it on everday. oh the problems we have.

Actually I'm mostly Irish. My dad and my sister both have this problem and it's an on going battle. It's pretty bad when the skin is so dry you can scratch yourself with it. That's a lot of lotion. I guess though if that's all there is to do then you have to. Just irriating.

Try using more oil and less water in your soaks. Safflower oil, canola oil, or virgin coconut oil with a litle hot water can do more for your soaking than water. Then keep your feet covered so you avoid friction on the bottoms of your feet. This will help you avoid friction while walking.

I never thought of putting oil into the water. usually I just use moisturizing bubble bath and epsom salts. I'll have to give that a try. Not sure I have any of those on hand but I can check :)

I have always heard that epsom salt dries your skin out and if your having problems already with dry skin, I wouldn't use that. Try using MSM cream. I have dry skin during the winter time and that's what I use. It's also a a good healing cream. Also, Miracle II lotion, which you can find at health food stores or order it off line at miracle2distributors.com. Always use socks when putting any cream on your feet and find a good soap that has a moisturizer in it, which the Miracle 2 website has a great soap with moisturizer in it. That's where I get mine. Good Luck and hope with everyones ideas will help you.

hi there,no i dont have this problem but using petroleum jelly will help because i do use it or you might want to find a moisturizer especially for the feet.Always wear your socks to bed after applying the vaseline or moisurizer because it keeps the moisture locked in.

Dry feet run in my family on my mother's side also. I have seen their feet and I have a thing about it. I vowed that I would never let my feet get to that point. So I have one of those foot pedicure pumice stones that I use when I have been soaking in the bath. And I use this amazing Shea Butter lotion! It is awesome! I don't like Cocoa Butter for some reason...so, just to let you know, this smells nothing like that. :)

Shea butter can be nice but I have to be careful with it. We had some from Oil of Olay that had it in there but the lotion fragrance I was allergic to. We now have some soap with it in and it's fine. So each one I have to check. I've used cocoa butter in the past and that I like without a problem.

I battle this too emerald. I try to use the pumice stone each night in the shower. Once out of the shower, I put vaseline on my feet and then some socks. I do find that if I don't go barefoot in the house and instead wear slippers, it helps some too. I have to put lotion on each morning too. I really don't think it will ever be totally gone.

I have used the pumice stone and I do love the barefoot products by Freemans but they are hard to find. Have you tried bag balm? It's almost a grease you put on like vaseline but then put socks on afterwards other wise you'll slide all over. I know it's helped on occassion with me. I just get tired of doing it and then before I know it the dry skin is back.

I am plagued with this problem also and in winter it is so bad. I find that if I use a primece (spelling?) stone on them while in the shower. It helps some. I also use lots of cream on them before I go to bed and wear socks. I wish there would be something that really works but nothing seems to work

I know I get the temporary relief but if I forget or something it's back and that's frustrating. It would be nice to fix it once and for all.

okay. get a cheap bottle of lotion (because you'll be using a lot) and put it all over your feet. a THINK layer so you cant even see skin anymore. then put a pair or 2 (incase it seeps through) of socks on and leave them on over night. it reallly works. just make sure theres a lot of it on. but it works for me! hope that helps

I have tried a million and one things. What you can do is moisturize your feet with any lotin you chose but do keep or sleep socks on to attempt to seal in moisture for your feet... or for really soft feet: cover your feet in vasalene and wrap them up in plastic over night. Do wear socks while you have them wrapped. if you do thisa few times a week then you should be alright... :)

Actually, I did have very dry feet. This may sound strange, but I soap them, I use either intensive care lotion from jergens, slap on nice coat on my feet and then I put these lil footie plastic bags on them to make sure that the moisture stays in. I normally do that about 3 or 4 times a week. Doing the warmer weather I love wearing sandals...I can't walk around with crazy looking feet. There is also this cream at walmart in the foot area. I can't think of the name but it's in a brown and beige tube. Its for dry feet. It's in a tube and you rub them on your feet, looks like you just came out from getting a pedicure. I will check when I get home and post it here again..Good luck to you..

pumice stone, when feet are wet after being soaked in the bath. Don't wear socks all the time, walk around the house bare footed in slippers, minus the socks. If any one is diabetic never ever use a knife or a razor, the circulation is very poor in the foot and can lead to major problems if you cut your foot. Try rubbing your feet with a little salt and butter or you can use sugar and butter for a softer gentler scouring action. Not sure what else you can do. I used to wrap my feet in bandages after smoothering them in petroleum jelly.

oh yes! i also have very dry feet... i've tried everything, from having regular foot spa (which is quite expensive), to doing the scrubbing myself. But now, after so much trial and error, i now regularly use intensive foot cream -- the key is to make sure that the moisture are not lost. I also found out that taking vitamin E helps.

Take your feet and slather them with the Peppermint Foot Lotion from the Body Shop. Then wrap them in saran wrap and wear a big pair of socks for 2 hours. Your feet will feel amazing when you take the saran wrap off!

Freemans has that as well which I love. Just hard to find. I haven't tried the saran wrap but that might be worth trying.

Try to put petroleum jelly every night into your feet then wear socks until morning. You will see the big difference. Just make sure you do it everyday, you can also follow it even in day time once your just at home and not going out.
