Anyone have a child who doesn't like any kind of toothpaste?

I am so tired of arguing with my daughter who is nine about brushing her teeth! She keeps telling me she doesn't like any of the toothpaste I bring home. She will use plain water, but I am afraid this isn't good enough. Anyone have ideas on what to do?

My son has CP and refuses to even let you get close to his teeth. The therapists have suggested sprinkling a little salt on the toothbrush so that he will put it in his mouth. They said it would also help with bad breath and bacteria. He does it without fighting. If there is toothpaste he gags and throws up. Just an idea, not a total fix.

I had a similar problem with Joey. He didn't want to brush at all though. I told him he only had to brush the teeth he wanted to keep. That if he wanted to be the only kid in 3rd grade who ate baby food because he had no teeth, that was his choice. Maybe you could take her to the store to pick out the flavor she wants but tell her she must use it every day. If that doesn't work, ask the dentist what to do. Maybe he can talk to her.

Becareful using some of the flavored toothpastes as they often have some kind of sugar in them for the taste. You might talk to your dentist about her brushing and then maybe just rinsing with something like ACT floride and cavity fighting treatment.

I'd ask your dentist; s/he has probably seen this type of thing before. You might want to try having her use something like ProHealth rinse aferwards; she might have an easier time with that than toothpaste, and it's really good for your teeth.
