what does discussions resolved mean?

anyone know? how is a discussion resolved? why does it need to be resolved? who makes those decisions? who decides who makes the best response too while i'm at it. where can i find this info out...i'm looking but obviously not hard enough

I think it means how many discussions have you started that you've assigned a best response to.
