What is EJ really up to?

I couldn't understand why EJ wanted Steve to steal John out of the hospital, then he started talking about taking John's kidney out. They are extremly vague in why EJ wants this done, but the only thing I can imagine is Stefano needs a new kidney and John's blood matches.

Good to see a discussion about "Days" as I haven't seen it for atleast two weeks now. I suspected even back then that they would bring Stefano back into the picture which should really spice things up once again. I think that your theory makes sense, I can't see why else they'd want the kidney. Surely it's not for the money because they are filthy rich already..haha!
