Are You Numb By The Announcements Of War Casualties

Car Bomb - Iraqi car bomb

I have noticed every day when I read the headline news I read about so many people getting blown up by this car bomb or that car bomb. It is now so much of everyday life I think I am beginning to become numb to these casualties. In the beginning these deaths bothered me so much and weighed heavy on my mind, I prayed for these people's families and I still do. The only difference now is I feel like it is a part of life and would be surprised if I did not read about someone, somewhere getting blown up. Are you feeling the numbness or is it just me? I do try to read less and less news each day, but I have to know some news in order to exist.

The 'horors' of war are so mind numbing and happen so far away that we feel remote from the reality of it .. I do remember when the Balkan war first started I stood in my kitchen and looked out over the countryside and wondered how on earth I would feel if a tank suddenly started crawling across the field towards my home .. Disbelief, panic, bewilderment, terror, and a huge emptiness is how I felt .. to think that my very neighbours would be coming to kill me is practically impossible to come to terms with .. I have also wondered what it must be like to be caught in in some horrific explosion .. your whole life would change .. would you ever regain a simple thing like trust .. to stand in a queue, shop in a market, sit in a restaurant without constantly looking around andfeeling very unsafe all the time .. And then I am thankful I live where I do .. a very quiet village, not worth anyone attacking .. ... but then those poor souls in the Balkans probably felt that way before the war started too ... ... horrendous isn't it ..

it is a tradage that the bomb keep going of weather car bombs or bombs carried on someones body to go to a place to kill a bunch of people I dont know why they think they is being heroic? They kill theirselves and alot of people makes no sence to me. cant they see it is killing more of their own people along with a few outsiders. It is ashame that they are taught that this is good for being a marter

I share your thoughts absolutely on this matter,in fact would go so far as to say that the longer these acts of atrocities continue the more chance there is of a terrorist group acquiring a 'dirty bomb'& that really would be something to get into a lather about!!!

I don't bother listening to the news any more. It's always about this that and the other over in Iraq. Lives are being needlessly lost and we're losing more and more soldiers each and every day in a war thats needless. If I want to know the news, I log into my Yahoo! email account and check out the headlines. There I can pick and choose what I want to read. I'm not saying that we should forget the war in Iraq, but I personally can't stand to listen to the news of more car bombs and more lives being lost, civilians as well as Soldiers.

Wmg this has been part of my Life from the Age of 10, my Stepfather was in the Army and my Ex Husband to so it was always there. I used to dread going to my Car and I used to have to check it all the time. I had to teach my small Children never to go near the car till I checked it, that was my biggest worry was the Children, as all it would have taken is one knock and it would have blown up. It is very scary.

I don't always watch the news because it pains me to see innocent people mainly civilians getiing hurt because of the war. I just wish everyone will get along but that is something very impossible if their ideals are different. All we can do is be thankful that we're not involved in the war.

I think I was feeling guilty when I started this discussion. I still feel guilty but I am glad there are others who also feel this way.

Fai D. Fluorite - The sexy mage of Seresu *drools*
I'd sound sissy-like here, but whenever I hear or see such news.. tears well up in my eyes. Always. It never changes. I'd be so sad and angry inside, and I would always ask myself why people seem to like to hurt each other. Why they can't just choose to love each other instead of hate each other. Why they just can't live in peace together. It always gets me down.

I am shocked by how many of my fellow brothers and sisters are dying over seas. I just can not believe that the war has escalted this far. I also can not believe that when we are through with Iraq that we are going to move to Iran.

All we need to do is to be carefull and be more observing person. we cannot stop the terrorist from attacking, the only thing we can do is to pray and to be aware on what's happening in our community. we better stop fighting against each other.

I live the life of a military dependent, and so I hear about this all the time. What weights on my heart and mind is that you don't hear enough about the over 23,000 wounded (many severely). I find it interesting that this week the civilian population finally got to hear news about a very common problem that hits military members and their families--the disgusting conditions of VA hospitals, like Walter Reed. This isn't something new. The fact is, this war has grown out of hand financially and they keep cutting back on things that go into taking care of the numerous wounded that return home. There aren't enough quality hospitals and rehabilitative services available to these men and women that put their lives on the line. I just wish more civilian would come out and begin to ask the right questions of our Commander and Chief and his administration and start holding them accountable for abusing the right and privilege to use our military the way they have in a war that was based on lies and sold to the American people, Congress, and the Senate. We are in it now, yet we can't afford to take care of those that are fighting it. And now, we are hearing more and more about Iran...it's only a matter of time before this administration pushes ahead with their pre-formed agenda that was well in place even before they entered the White House. I feel the same reaction as you do over time. It's been inevitable that there will be headlines on bombing and violence everyday..and yeah..it's almost a part of evryday life. Everytime i open my email page, the news headlines shows these things that it has become very common that i can no longer draw anymore reactions than what i used to have. It made me picky about the news that i read. I no longer bother to view the details of those news about bombings but just read the headline and simply pray that God will bless the victims and put a stop to these cruel acts.

It seems you are not alone in there. I too noticed that those news doesn't affect me anymore. Eversince the Afghan war and Iraq war all looks the same story with me and does not have any impact with me. it seems very normal nowadays those things happening. But still, in my place when that happens it somewhat gives me the creeps coz my fellow countrymen are affected by it. Although bombings in my place has subsided a bit but there are still bombings in the south where there are casualties. i just wished this would soon stop and we all live in peace and harmony.

To me, war casualties are sort of old news to me. Today, these things are starting to get normalized, and they are already commonplace.
