What are your views? Do you think it's wrong to keep animals in captivity, like in a zoo? What if they are endangered species? Is it a good thing then because it saves them from extinction?

Someone recently asked this. If someone has created a safe environment that recreates the true habitat of an endangered species in an attempt to save them, I am all for it., If they lock animals in crates and cages so people can come and stare at them, I don't agree with it.

There are many types of zoos. Sometimes animals are not treated properly, they're just caged and that's a shame. But there are zoos where they have a relatively good life, and they are well taken care of. Then you got the dilemma of endangered species....if some zoos don't grow them, they might disappear, so i think that zoos are not such a bad idea after all, and also kids can see those animals they would never get to see in their natural locations, and that might help them become more aware that nature is wonderful and we should all help to protect it.

for endangered species that is a tricky one. You see it has been noted that the sometimes taking animals out of the wild and caging them like that prevents them from breeding. And if they can't breed then the species is still very much endangered.

I think we still need zoo, for our kids to learn and see in real those animals. Even the endanger species, if/when they can have them in the zoo, that would be lovely. I don't know about saves the animals from extinction; but I hope the people who work in the zoo are the people who really care a lot and very passionate towards animals there.

I don't mind zoos at all. It gives the public a close look at the beauty of these animals and brings to the forefront the need to do what we can to preserve endangered species. Life in the wild is dog-eat-dog and these animals are usually very well taken care of, fed daily, given health care and probably live beyond their natural life span in the wild. And yes, sometimes saves a species from extinction. Zoos are much better than they used to be in years past.

animals are the natural living beings.nobody have any right to capture them and put that in one cell. animals also have life they also want to live freely. if human beings did like the wht they will do. they cannot speak coz human can tell their problems and share it somebody but what about animals they cant do thatsy we as a humanbeing we have to understand their feeling. thatsy what i am thinking is animals will be happy in the forest rather than keeping them in zoos. live and let live those natural resources. we dnt have any right to capture them and to make money. cont...

Why do we needs zoos? I really don't agree with zoos that keep animals locked up all day in cages, it's unhealthy for them and they don't get enough exercises. On the other hand, I think safaris and national parks are good, the animals have enough space to roam around and people get to appreciate the animals by seeing them. By saying safaris I dont mean the big ones in Africa but the ones on smaller scale closer to the towns and such. About endangered species, it will probably be necessary to keep them in captive for breeding but to show them to the public for 24/7 would surely make any animal feel uncomfortable. What I really can't stand is how they keep dolphins and orcas locked up in really tiny tanks for shows, it's like you're saying to them "for the rest of your life, you'll be swimming around in circles".

I think it is a great educational tool to have them where people can see them. I think that if people could not see them in zoos that they would be more apt to go out and kill them to show everyone. I think it does prevent animals from comming endangered because people are just not considerate of animals precious lives.

I guess zoos have good intentions when it comes to keeping the animals safe especially those that are bound to become extinct. But in my opinion, zoos should only be like a temporary home for the animals until they could actually find a safe environment to set them free. Of course, no animal would like to be caged all their life. It's not healthy for them.
