How do you like it? do you like it? usually, infact all but one time I have had it - the catfish has a cholorine type taste to me. bleck. Although I do like it fried somewhat (other than that chlorine taste) I prefer it blackened, maybe all those cajun spices help to mask the aftertaste a bit. The one time it did not taste that chlorine taste was when I had it in Mexico. It was baked and it was incredible! the meat so delicate and buttery. Absolutely no chlorinish after taste at all. I am wondering if the difference is in the water it lived in. I know I know you hear so much about mexico water, what I mean is; here in the states I have eaten only river catfish, I imagine what I got in Mexico is from the Ocean/Gulf. Does anyone else find that the fish has a chlorine taste? How do you prepare it, or have it prepared that you like it most?

I am not a big fish eating person. I don't like much seafood either. But catfish is about the only fish I do like, and I like it filleted and fried very crispy. I do not like soggy fish or undercooked fish. I love it with salt and lemon pepper seasoning in the batter. Yummy. I have never noticed any chlorinated taste though, this concerned me. It may be from where your fish were coming from. Did you ever ask anyone about this, either at the store where purchased, or the restaurant where you were served? I live in the south, and to me the best tasting catfish comes from the pond. My ex mother in law had a fantastic catfish pond on her property. We could go and fish and everyone catch nice big fish, but I like the small to mid size fish, they don't have a strong "fishy" taste. Great discussion.

Well, I have noticed this strange taste many times. Right now I live in the Midwest, I have previously lived in the S. West and the North East and always noticed that odd taste. I have asked others in the family about it and mostly they do not notice, but sometimes they will say - that did have a bit of chlorine taste to it (usually those are the times I can not take a second bite of the fish!) but that one I had in Mexico was so delicate and delicious, I wasn't sure at first that it was really catfish :)

I like catfish as far away from my plate as possible! I just can't bring myself to eat anything with the word cat in it.
