Do we (Filipinos) really lack discipline?

I still remember the TV ad with a local actor in a cab. He said "Bakit ang Filipino pag nasa ibang bansa disiplinado?" Is it because the laws here or the law-enforcers are not strict enough? Or do we really lack discipline?

i think we should stop blaming others (government example) and just start rectifying one's own mistakes (lack of discipline in that matter).

its not that we lack of discipline but it in my own opinion its more on we like the idea of having them (the foreigner) impressed on us. thats why more Filipinos abroad are being rewarded for their excellent effort.

Our laws are fine, but our law enforcers are not. Had a traffic violation but you are willing to give away more or less 200 Pesos? Then more often than not you can easily drive away without getting a ticket. Even many high ranking government officials can be bribed. They have properties that cost more than their salaries could allow them to buy. Where do you think they get the "extra cash"? That is why we have a tendency to not honor and follow our laws. If you have money, you can buy your way out of trouble. And if you do not have money but you have a rich and/or powerful backer, then you can stay out of jail too. In other countries where the laws are strictly implemented, we know we cannot get away with violations/crimes. Hence making us disciplined in other countries.

I agree, they always been able to put in jail those small time criminals and not the masterminds. Some of those in jails are even just been framed-up.

I guess it is because of the lawmakers themselves show their lack of discipline. Instead of being the role models in our society, they are the first ones who sometimes breaks the rules. Or sometimes, they make the law but they lack on implementing it more and that they don't mind others that are violating it. I can say is, we are not lacking in discipline. But the stubborness and the implemetion of the law is what we should focus on..

They are just being lawmakers and not law-enforcers. I hope one day they will seriously do their jobs.

We can say that it is both, lack of discipline and lack of enforcement. In Martial law we saw discipline among us because we are scared of the soldiers who are roaming round the clock. I'm not saying Martial law is good. It's just nowadays, Pinoys are courageous enough to break the law if they think they could get away with it. Law enforcement is lacking, and lazy.

It's upsetting to know that we need to be scared to strictly follow the rules.

Yup, the government is very lax indeed when it comes to employing rules. We cannot blame it all to the government though. We make our own choices. if only we could follow what is right then we are disciplined. The government don't need to deploy authorities that will guard every walls in the street to prevent guys from pissing the walls. The insufficient classrooms and high tuition fees, which might be an indirect cause of Filipino's lack of discipline, should be blamed to the government. People should be educated to know what is right and what is wrong.

It's a good thing you mentioned about pissing the walls. I guess it only happens here. I've seen lot of people doing that especially drivers, I hope there would be plenty of clean public restrooms around.

It is not that lack of discipline,it is lack of enforcement on the part of the government.yes there is a law but no strict enforecemnet. If they enforce it strictly that all citizens can abide, then a discipline is already there.I notice also that overseas workers are strictly abiding the laws of the cpountry where they work..

I agree, even if you're the kind of person who does follow rules it is really tempting just to do what others do. It feels a little unfair if you're sweating under the sun crossing the overpass while there are people jaywalking and not being caught.

most of us are, sad to say. law enforcers lack the discipline to implement the laws strictly. most filipinos take advantage of this i think. what we lack is the discipline in ourselves. lets take the simple things..like littering and jaywalking.i have often observed how people just casually throw candy wrappers on the road or while in public transpo. really disapponting. if we can't start the discipline in us i dont think we as a people would progress. it takes a collective consciousness.

I agree discipline starts from within. But one person could not make a lot of difference, everybody should do it.
