Since it's that time of year, I thought I'd share this tip. Give them to your ratties for lots of fun! Be sure to observe, as they'll wrestle each other for the egg! Get a bunch of plastic easter eggs from the dollar store. You'll need lots, because more often then not, the ratties will chew the eggs up to get inside. Fill them with all sorts of good-smelling goodies. We use dried bananna chips, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, and pieces of dog food. Toss 'em in the cage, and watch the fun that ensues.

Are there other options to using plastic eggs? I don't want to give my little guys anything plastic that they might swallow. I've done something similar by tying up goodies into undyed paper, for example from a grown paper bag. They look sort of like candies in a wrapper. Then I put them all in a box full of shredded paper and let the ratties go at it. They love it. I usually use fresh veggies and nuts, rather than peanut butter chips or dog food which have both too much protein and too much fat. Due to the age of my old papa rat (not actually a papa, just what we call him) I have become concerned with giving him the best diet possible.
