I have several chilli seasoning mix recipes that I use. This is my daughters favorite. It is homemade from scratch so there is no MSG in it. You know it is healthy for your family. They will just love it. Unlike store bought mixes, you can adjust the ingredients in this mix to suit your families taste. The Mix recipe makes about 5 packets. You can make them for yourself or to give as gifts. The recipe to use the mix is added after the chilli seasoning mix recipe. I always make my chilli in a dutch oven. I just think the cast iron dutch oven adds a taste that you cannot get in any other pot or pan. Of course you can use any pan you choose. I hope you enjoy it. CHILI SEASONING MIX (makes 4-5 packets) 1/2 cup chili powder 1/4 cup dried minced onions 2 TBSP dried minced garlic 2 TBSP ground cumin 2 TBSP cornstarch 2 TBSP salt 1 TBSP sweet pepper flakes 1 TBSP black pepper 1 tsp. dried oregano leaves 1/2 tsp. ground red pepper (cayenne) 1/8 tsp. ground cloves In a small bowl, combine all ingredients; stir until well blended. Put 1/4 cup seasoning mix into a snack size ziplock bag. Attach recipe. Recipe: CHILI 1 package chili seasoning mix 1-1/2 lb. ground beef 1/2 cup water 1 large and 1 regular size can crushed tomatoes 1 can light red kidney beans 1 can dark red kidney beans 2 carrots, sliced 2 celery stalks, sliced In a Dutch oven, brown beef; drain. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes or until ready to serve.

I like the seasoning mix. I've also noticed the MSG in some chili powders. I avoid MSG because I've had allergic reactions to it.

Chili mix - What a great idea. Doesn't this make you want a big bowl of chili?
Thanks for the chili mix. I usually spend about $1 on my chili seasoning for each batch I make. I purchase mine from wal-mart but will start making my own. Thanks again.

Thanks for the chili seasoning mix recipe. I usually just buy the packages, but they are getting expensive even. I use chili beans in my chili not kidney beans. In my opinion, kidney beans have kind of a hard shell and I don't like that. I also have never put carrots in my chili. I wonder how they affect the taste? I usually use a huge roasting type pot to make chili (takes two burners on the stove) and 4 cans of beans with 3 lbs ground beef. I have to make chili by the tubfull. lol This way we get more than one meal out of it. Something else you might wanna try. When you make chili. We make stuff that we call "junk". Finely chop some lettuce (we use iceberg lettuce) and dice a few tomatoes, and chop and onion. You will also need some shredded cheddar cheese (mild) get a plate and layer the bottom of the plate with Fritos then spoon chili over those, then lettuce, tomato, onion and sprinkle with cheddar cheese, then a dollop of sour cream on top... it is Yummy! It would be a great idea for lunch on the week end when the family is all together, or a dinner alternative. This is part of the reason I make a big batch of chili, so we can do "junk" the next day or two. My family and all their friends love it!
