Hello. An Anullment means that the sacrament of marriage never happened, that the wedding was only a civil contract. This can happen if certain conditions existed at the marriage. Say for instance you marry a man only to find out later that he is really a woman disguised as a man, that marriage never really happened, even though it looked like it did and even though you really wanted to marry "him" If you marry someone who is your brother, that is not a sacramental marriage either. The word anullment comes from Null which means void. A divorce says that you were married and now by civil law (not God's law) you are now unmarried by a court decree. I hope this helps a little in understanding the difference.
